2017 IIHF Women's World Championship
The 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship was an international Ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was held in Plymouth Township, Michigan, United States from 31 March to 7 April 2017. The USA Hockey Arena served as the event's venue using Arena I and Arena II. The United States defeated Canada in the gold medal game 3–2 after overtime, winning their eighth title. Finland won the bronze medal by beating Germany 8–0. In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. Nicole Hensley
Nicole Hensley (born June 23, 1994) is an American women’s ice hockey player. She is currently a member of the Professional Women's Hockey Players' Association. Playing career USA Hockey Hensley was named one of three goaltenders to compete for the United States women's national ice hockey team at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship in Kamloops, British Columbia. Hensley was also named to the 2017 team, where she was in net for a shutout against Canada in the preliminary rounds, started the quarterfinal against Germany, and played in Team USA's 3–2 OT win against Canada for the championship. Anna Sergeyevna Shibanova (russian: Анна Сергеевна Шибанова; born 10 November 1994) is a Russian ice hockey defenseman and member of the Russian national team, currently serving as an alternate captain of Agidel Ufa in the Zhenskaya Hockey League (ZhHL). Susanna "Suski" Tapani (born 2 March 1993) is a Finnish multi-sport elite athlete who competes in ice hockey, ringette, and in-line hockey. Michelle Karvinen (born 27 March 1990) is a Danish-Finnish ice hockey player and member of the Finnish national team, currently signed with Frölunda HC Dam of the Damettan. Hanna-Riikka Sallinen ( Nieminen, previously Välilä; born 12 June 1973) is a Finnish retired ice hockey, bandy, rinkball, and pesäpallo player.
