The 2017 Giro dell'Emilia was the 100th edition of the Giro dell'Emilia road cycling one day race. It was held on 30 September 2017 as part of the 2017 UCI Europe Tour in category 1.HC, over a distance of 223.3 km, starting in Bologna and ending in Madonna di San Luca, Bologna. The race was won by Giovanni Visconti of . Teams Twenty-four teams were invited to take part in the race. These included eleven UCI WorldTeams, nine UCI Professional Continental teams and four UCI Continental teams. 2017 UCI Europe Tour
The 2017 UCI Europe Tour was the thirteenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2017 season began on 26 January 2017 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Santanyí-Ses Salines-Campos and ended on 17 October 2017 with the Nationale Sluitingsprijs. Thibaut Pinot (born 29 May 1990) is a French professional road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI WorldTeam . Once considered one of the most promising talents in French cycling, he finished third overall in the 2014 Tour de France and first in the young rider classification. He has won stages in all three Grand Tours, with 3 in the Tour de France, 1 in the Giro d'Italia and 2 in the Vuelta a España. Gianni Moscon (born 20 April 1994) is an Italian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the road race. Giovanni Visconti (born 13 January 1983) is an Italian professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Professional career Early career Born in Turin, Visconti won his first race in 2006 at the Coppa Sabatini. One year later, he won the Italian National Road Race Championships on 1 July 2007, beating Paolo Bossoni () and Davide Rebellin () at the end in a sprint. Madonna Di San Luca, Bologna
The Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca is a basilica church in Bologna, northern Italy, sited atop a forested hill, Colle or Monte della Guardia, some 300 metres above the city plain, just south-west of the historical centre of the city. While a road now leads up to the sanctuary, it is also possible to reach it along a 3.8 km monumental roofed Arcade (architecture), arcade (Portico di San Luca) consisting of 666 arches, which was built in 1674–1793. It was meant to protect the icon as it was paraded up the hill. A yearly procession from the Cathedral of San Pietro in the centre of Bologna to the Sanctuary goes along this path.
