2017 FIBA Under-17 Oceania Championship
The 2017 FIBA Under-17 Oceania Championship was an international under-17 basketball tournament held from 10–15 July 2017 by FIBA Oceania in Hagatna, Guam. Australia subdued New Zealand in the Finals, 93–55, to take the Gold Medal and the fifth consecutive U17 title. Both teams will now move on to the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship which in turn the qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup Hosts Selection On 23 September 2016, FIBA Oceania announced during their Board Meeting that Guam will host the tournament. The Calvo Field House of the University of Guam in Hagatna will be the main venue for the championship. FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship
The FIBA Oceania Under-15 Championship is an under-15 basketball championship in the International Basketball Federation's Oceania zone. Since 2018, the competition previously known as FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship, which was a qualifier for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup, is now an under-15 competition for Oceania teams to qualify to the FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship (from which they can then qualify for the World Cup). Father Dueñas Memorial School
Father Dueñas Memorial School (FDMS) is an all-male Catholic high school located in Chalan-Pago census-designated place, in the United States territory of Guam. It is within the territory of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Agaña. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Most Rev. Apollinaris W. Baumgartner, OFM Cap. founded the school in 1948. It was named after Father Jesus Baza Dueñas, a Chamorro priest who was beheaded by Japanese forces during World War II. The school began as a seminary to teach young men to become priests; it became a university preparatory school. History On October 1, 1948, Bishop Apollinaris Wiliam Baumgartner, O.F.M. Mangilao
Mangilao is a Villages of Guam, village on the eastern shore of the United States territory of Guam. The village's population has decreased slightly since the island's 2010 census. Cliffs lie along much of the village's shoreline provide dramatic views, including of Pago Bay along Mangilao's southern coastline, but few of Mangilao's beaches are available for recreational uses. Chamorro Time Zone
The Chamorro Time Zone, formerly the Guam Time Zone, is a United States time zone which observes standard time ten hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC+10:00). The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 150th meridian east of the Greenwich Observatory. The zone includes the U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, where the Chamorro people are the original inhabitants. Since Daylight Saving Time (DST) is not observed anywhere in this zone, the time is always known as Chamorro Standard Time (ChST). The zone is two hours behind Wake Island Time Zone and 15 hours ahead of North American Eastern Time Zone. As of March 8, 2020, it is the easternmost (farthest ahead) time zone shown on the U.S. government's time.gov webpage. University of Guam ( ch, Unibetsedåt Guåhan) (U.O.G.) is a public land-grant university in Mangilao, Guam. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and offers thirty-four degree programs at the undergraduate level and eleven at the master's level.
