2017 FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship For Women
The 2017 FIBA Oceania Under-17 Women's Championship was an international under-17 basketball tournament held from 10–15 July 2017 by FIBA Oceania in Hagåtña, Guam. Australia defeated New Zealand in the Finals, 81–60. Both teams will now move on to the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Women's Asian Championship, which in turn the qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup. Hosts Selection On 23 September 2016, FIBA Oceania announced during their Board Meeting that Guam was to host the tournament. The Calvo Field House of the University of Guam in Hagåtña was the main venue for the championship. Mangilao
Mangilao is a Villages of Guam, village on the eastern shore of the United States territory of Guam. The village's population has decreased slightly since the island's 2010 census. Cliffs lie along much of the village's shoreline provide dramatic views, including of Pago Bay along Mangilao's southern coastline, but few of Mangilao's beaches are available for recreational uses. Naupaka Ackley
''Scaevola'' is a genus of flowering plants in the '' Goodenia'' family, Goodeniaceae. It consists of more than 130 species, with the center of diversity being Australia and Polynesia. There are around 80 species in Australia, occurring throughout the continent, in a variety of habitats. Diversity is highest in the South West, where around 40 species are endemic. Common names for ''Scaevola'' species include scaevolas, fan-flowers, half-flowers, and naupaka, the plants' Hawaiian name. The flowers are shaped as if they have been cut in half. Consequently, the generic name means " left-handed" in Latin. Many Hawaiian legends have been told to explain the formation of the shape of the flowers. In one version a woman tears the flower in half after a quarrel with her lover. The gods, angered, turn all naupaka flowers into half flowers and the two lovers remained separated while the man is destined to search in vain for another whole flower. Father Dueñas Memorial School
Father Dueñas Memorial School (FDMS) is an all-male Catholic high school located in Chalan-Pago census-designated place, in the United States territory of Guam. It is within the territory of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Agaña. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Most Rev. Apollinaris W. Baumgartner, OFM Cap. founded the school in 1948. It was named after Father Jesus Baza Dueñas, a Chamorro priest who was beheaded by Japanese forces during World War II. The school began as a seminary to teach young men to become priests; it became a university preparatory school. History On October 1, 1948, Bishop Apollinaris Wiliam Baumgartner, O.F.M. Cap. established Father Dueñas Memorial School (FDMS) as a minor seminary and a high school for young men, near the site of Fr. Duenas’ martyrdom.
