2017 Venezuelan Regional Elections
Regional elections were held in Venezuela on 15 October 2017 to elect the executive position of all 23 federal entities. This marked the first state executive election not held on the same date as elections for state legislatures, and the second separate from municipal elections. They were the 9th regional elections held in Venezuela since 1989. The two main participants were the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) opposition coalition and the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP) alliance of the ruling Bolivarian government. The election resulted in a victory for the GPP, which won 18 out of the 23 governorships, while the MUD won the remaining five. Freddy Superlano
Freddy Superlano Salinas (born 25 June 1976) is a Venezuelan politician, educator and engineer currently serving as a deputy for the Popular Will party in the National Assembly. He is an outspoken critic of Nicolás Maduro and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). He was also a candidate for the Governor of Barinas state for the Democratic Unity Roundtable in 2017 election, which he lost to the pro-government candidate Argenis Chávez. Un Nuevo Tiempo
A New Era ( es, Un Nuevo Tiempo, UNT) is a centre-left political party in Venezuela. It received 11% of the vote in the 2008 regional elections. The party arose in Zulia State, Venezuela's most populous, and remains far stronger in its home region than elsewhere in the country, providing the state governor since 2000 (currently Pablo Pérez Álvarez, previously Manuel Rosales) and the mayor of its largest city, Maracaibo (since 2010, currently, Eveling Trejo de Rosales). 12 candidates of ''Un Nuevo Tiempo'' or supported by ''Un Nuevo Tiempo'' were elected deputies to the National Assembly out of 15 in the September 2010 legislative elections. Andrés Velásquez
Andrés Velásquez is a Venezuelan politician of the Radical Cause (''La Causa Radical'') party. Formerly the general secretary of the steelworkers union of SIDOR, he became one of the leaders of Radical Cause after the death of its founder, Alfredo Maneiro, in 1982. He was the governor of Bolívar State from 1989 to 1995, and a member of the National Assembly of Venezuela from 2000 to 2006. In the 2000 Venezuelan regional elections he ran unsuccessfully for the governorship of Anzoátegui state. He was Radical Cause's candidate in the 1993 Venezuelan presidential election, coming fourth with 22% of the vote; Rafael Caldera became president with 30.5%.
