2017 Constellation Cup
The 2017 Constellation Cup was the 8th Constellation Cup series played between Australia national netball team, Australia and New Zealand national netball team, New Zealand. The series featured four Test match (netball), netball test matches, played in October 2017. The Australia team was coached by Lisa Alexander (netball), Lisa Alexander and List of Australia national netball team captains, captained by Caitlin Bassett. New Zealand were coached by Janine Southby and captained by Katrina Grant. Australia won all four tests to win the series 4–0. Squads Australia ;Notes * Sharni Layton and Madison Robinson were included in the squad announced in June 2017. However, Layton withdrew and Robinson was dropped from the final squad. ;Milestones * Caitlin Bassett scored her 2000th international goal in the second test on 8 October 2017. Caitlin Bassett
Caitlin Bassett (born 23 May 1988) is a former Australian netballer, who played for Giants Netball and the Australia national netball team. Between 2017 and 2021 Bassett captained Australia in international netball tests. Career Caitlin played in the West Australian Netball League with Demons. Bassett played West Coast Fever from 2005 to 2016, before joining expansion side Sunshine Coast Lightning at the start of the 2017 season in the Suncorp Super Netball league. Bassett previously played for the Perth Orioles in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, she played for one half of a game as a member of the Australian Diamonds team. In 2011 Bassett was part of the 2011 World Championship winning Australian Diamonds Team, featuring in the final against New Zealand. Bassett replaced Cox at half time and led the team to a 58–57 victory over the Silver Ferns. Caitlyn Nevins
Caitlyn Nevins (born 1 June 1987), also known as Caitlyn Strachan, is a former Australia netball international. Between 2014 and 2016, she was a member of three successive ANZ Championship winning teams. She won her first title with the 2014 Melbourne Vixens before winning the 2015 and 2016 titles with Queensland Firebirds. She was a member of the Victorian Fury teams that won Australian Netball League titles in 2009, 2013 and 2014. Early life, family and education Strachan is the daughter of Lyn and Rob Strachan. She is originally from Victoria, born in Geelong and raised in Echuca. Between 1999 and 2004 she attended Echuca High School and between 2005 and 2008 she attended La Trobe University where she gained a Bachelor of Podiatry. Sharni Layton
Sharni Norder (née Layton; born 6 January 1988) is a retired Australian sportsperson, known for her top level careers in netball and Australian rules football. Over fifteen years Norder played for six netball clubs in multiple elite competitions, and was a dual premiership player for the Adelaide Thunderbirds. She earned 46 caps for the Australia national netball team, won two gold medals at the Netball World Cup and one gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, and was captain of the team in 2017. After ending her professional netball career at the Collingwood Magpies in 2018, Norder transitioned to Australian rules football and played for Collingwood's AFL Women's team. As a footballer, Norder earned All-Australian honours in 2020, was part of Collingwood's VFLW premiership in 2019 and was vice-captain of the club in 2021.
