2017 Bank Of The West Classic
The 2017 Stanford Classic (sponsored by Bank of the West) was a professional tennis tournament played on hardcourt, hard courts. It was the 46th edition of the tournament, and part of the WTA Premier tournaments of the 2017 WTA Tour. It took place in Stanford, California, United States between 31 July and 6 August 2017. It was the first women's event on the 2017 US Open Series. This event saw the top eight seeds make it to the quarterfinals, the first time since 2004 that this had happened at a WTA tournament. WTA Premier Tournaments
WTA Premier Tournaments was a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour, implemented from the reorganization of the schedule in 2009 until 2020. In 2020, Premier events included: * Four "Premier Mandatory" events in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Beijing with prize money of $4.5 million. * Five "Premier 5" events in Doha, Rome, Cincinnati, Toronto/Montreal, and Wuhan with prize money of $2 million. * Twelve "Premier" events with prize money of $600,000 to $1,000,000. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are: * "Premier Mandatory" 1000 * "Premier 5" 900 and * "Premier" 470. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam Tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, and 280 for winning an International tournament. Claire Liu
Claire Liu (born May 25, 2000) is an American tennis player. On 24th October 2022, she reached her career-high singles ranking of world No. 60. In 2017, she was the world No. 1 in the junior rankings, after winning the Wimbledon girls' singles title, and finishing runner-up at the French Open. Liu also won a junior Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon with Usue Arconada in 2016. As a professional, Liu has won one singles title and one doubles title on the WTA Challenger Tour as well as six singles titles and one doubles title in tournaments of the ITF Women's Circuit.
