2017 Bahamian General Election
General elections were held in the Bahamas on 10 May 2017. The elected members of the House of Assembly then elected the Prime Minister. The result was a victory for the opposition Free National Movement led by Hubert Minnis, which defeated the ruling Progressive Liberal Party led by Prime Minister Perry Christie. Background The Free National Movement (FNM) defeated the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) in the 2007 general elections amid a scandal involving the residency status of model and reality television star Anna Nicole Smith and allegations that the PLP's immigration minister had fast-tracked her application to live in the islands. The composition of the House of Assembly changed during the 2012–17 term. The Parliament of the Bahamas is the bicameral national parliament of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The parliament is formally made up of the sovereign (represented by the governor-general), an appointed Senate, and an elected House of Assembly. It currently sits at the Bahamian Parliament Building in Nassau, the national capital. The structure, functions, and procedures of the parliament are based on the Westminster system. Political corruption is the use of powers by government officials or their network contacts for illegitimate private gain. Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul is an American football offensive tackle for the Houston Cougars. Early life and high school Paul grew up in Houston, Texas and attended Jersey Village High School. During his freshman year of high school he grew nine inches from 5'6" to 6'3". Paul was rated a three-star recruit and committed to play college football at Houston over an offer from Tulsa. College career Paul redshirted his true freshman season with the Houston Cougars, but did start the final three games of the season. He started the first two games of his redshirt freshman season before it was ended by a foot injury. Paul started all 14 of the Cougars' games at left tackle in 2021 and was named first team All-American Athletic Conference. He repeated as a first team All-AAC selection as a redshirt sophomore.
