2017 BDO World Trophy
The 2017 BDO World Trophy was a major darts tournament run by the British Darts Organisation. It was hosted between 26–29 May 2017 at Memo Arts Centre, Barry, Wales. The event was broadcast on FrontRunner. Australian qualifier Peter Machin won the men's title, and Dutch player Aileen de Graaf won the women's title. Barry Memorial Hall
The Memo Arts Centre, formerly known as Barry Memorial Hall or Memorial Hall & Theatre, popularly known as The Memo, is a prominent venue in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, currently the "largest multi-arts venue in the Vale of Glamorgan, and only cinema exhibitor in Barry". It is situated in the Gladstone neighbourhood on Gladstone Road, off Holton Road. It was inaugurated in November 1932, and obtained its name in remembrance of those locals who died in World War I. It regularly hosts arts events and concerts, including live music, dance, and pantomime, workshops, and community events. It also hosts a nightclub for teenagers on Friday evenings which is very popular with the youth of the town. The main auditorium of the hall has a capacity of 886 people, 1,300 including standing. Jamie Hughes (darts Player)
Jamie Hughes (born 27 February 1986) is an English professional darts player. He competes for the Professional Darts Corporation. Career 2014–2015 Hughes broke out in 2014 by entering the world's top ten and reaching the final of the prestigious Winmau World Masters. He defeated Alan Norris 3–2 in the quarter-finals from 2–0 down, and Martin Adams 6–5 in the semi-finals from 5–2 down, also surviving ten match darts in the ninth set. Hughes was eventually beaten 7–3 by Martin Phillips having led 2–0 and thrown for the third set. In December of that year, Hughes won the prestigious Zuiderduin Masters on his first appearance at the event, surviving six match darts in the semi-final against Tony O'Shea before beating Gary Robson 5–0 in the final, losing only three legs in the whole match. Richard Veenstra
Richard Veenstra (born 10 July 1981) is a Dutch professional darts player who currently plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. He is a Dutch Open champion, BDO World Trophy and Finder Darts Masters finalist. Multiple medalist of WDF World Cup and WDF Europe Cup. Martin Phillips (darts Player)
Martin Phillips (born 30 April 1960) is a Welsh former professional darts player who competed in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). He won the 2014 World Masters championship. Darts career 1988–1994 Phillips was born in Dolgellau, and made his first televised darts appearance at the 1988 British Professional Championship reaching the last 16. In 1991, he appeared at his first World Championship losing in the first round to the defending champion Phil Taylor. In 1992 he defeated the Dutchman Bert Vlaardingerbroek 3–0 in the first round and knocked out five-time world champion Eric Bristow 3–2 in the second round to reach the quarter final where he was defeated again by Taylor, who went on to clinch his second World title. Nick Kenny (darts Player)
Nicholas Kenny (born 13 March 1993) is a Welsh professional darts player who currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation Events. He took a Bronze medal in the WDF Europe Cup. Career Kenny won the WDF European Cup youth Singles in 2010. In 2016 he qualified for the BDO World Trophy but was defeated by Mark McGeeney 7-6 in the last 16 of the competition, having beaten fifth seed Wesley Harms in the first round. Kenny faced first seed Glen Durrant in the first round of the 2017 BDO World Darts Championship, he lost 3–1. Kenny won a two-year PDC Tour Card on the final day of 2020 Q-School. Geert De Vos
Geert De Vos (born 6 October 1981) is a Belgian darts player. His nickname is "Foxy". Career In 2012, De Vos qualified for the first time for BDO World Darts Championship; this performance led to a wildcard for the Zuiderduin Masters. During this tournament, he lost his first match against the eventual winner Scott Waites 5–3. During the World Championship, De Vos played Tony West, the eleventh seed. Martin Adams
Martin Adams (born 4 June 1956) is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Nicknamed "Wolfie", he is a three-time BDO World Champion and three-time World Masters champion. He represents Cambridgeshire at county darts level and was the captain of England from 1993 to 2013, the longest any player has held that role. From his debut in 1994, Adams made a record 25 consecutive World Championship appearances, before failing to qualify for the first time in 2019. Adams was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April 2016, but by the end of the year he was given the all-clear. Ross Montgomery (born 16 October 1962), nicknamed The Boss, is a Scottish professional darts player who played in World Darts Federation (WDF) tournaments and as of January 14th 2022 now plays on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Darius Labanauskas (born 26 July 1976) is a Lithuanian professional darts player who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. In 2015, he was the WDF world number 1. Career BDO Labanauskas is a three-time Lithuania National Champion and won the Lithuania Open in 2011 and 2013. He also won the Baltic Cup Open in 2013, the Estonian Open in 2012 and 2013, and in 2014 he won the Trakai Castle Cup, the Riga Open and the Riga Masters. Scott Waites (born 17 February 1977) is an English professional darts player who plays in tournaments of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He is a two-time BDO World Darts Champion having won the 2013 tournament and 2016 tournament. He is also a former Winmau World Masters champion, WDF World Cup singles' champion, Zuiderduin Masters champion. He also won the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts, becoming the only BDO representative to win the event. Wesley Harms
Wesley Harms (born 11 June 1984) is a Dutch former professional darts player. Career Harms won the BDO International Open in 2011, defeating Stephen Bunting in the final. Harms qualified for the 2012 BDO World Darts Championship as the 13th seed. He defeated Martin Phillips, Robbie Green, and fellow débutant Paul Jennings to reach the semi-final where he was defeated 6–5 by Tony O'Shea. Darryl Fitton
Darryl Fitton (born 5 May 1962) is an English professional darts player. He is nicknamed The Dazzler and comes to the stage dancing to the Madness song "One Step Beyond" wearing sunglasses; one of the most popular walk-ons with the audience. Before embarking on a career in darts, Fitton worked as an undertaker. Darts career Fitton's first TV appearance was against Peter Manley in the 1997 PDC World Matchplay. However, he lost 8-6, and has not made another PDC appearance since.
