2017 APRA Silver Scroll Awards
The 2017 APRA Awards (New Zealand), APRA Silver Scroll Awards were held on Thursday 28 September 2017 at the Dunedin Town Hall in Dunedin, celebrating excellence in New Zealand songwriting. This was the first time the awards had been hosted in Dunedin. Dunedin-born musician and long-listed songwriter Shayne Carter was the musical director for the event. His duties included arranging the five shortlisted songs to be covered by different musicians in a new style. Silver Scroll award The Silver Scroll award celebrates outstanding achievement in songwriting of original New Zealand pop music. The short list of finalists was announced on 24 August. The 2017 shortlist is notable for all five songs having been performed and written by female artists, though four male cowriters are among the nominees. The nominees include two previous Silver Scroll winners: Bic Runga who won in 1996 for "Drive (Bic Runga album), Drive", and Ella Yelich-O'Connor and co-writer Joel Little who won in 201 ... Dunedin Town Hall
The Dunedin Town Hall, also known as the Dunedin Centre, is a municipal building in the city of Dunedin in New Zealand. It is located in the heart of the city extending from The Octagon, the central plaza, to Moray Place through a whole city block. It is the seat of the Dunedin City Council, providing its formal meeting chamber, as well as a large auditorium and a conference centre. The oldest part of the building has been called the only substantial Victorian town hall still in existence in New Zealand. Name The name is ambiguous. The structure was built in two major stages with a fifty-year gap between. The first stage, built in the 19th century, is a block of offices. This was popularly called the "Dunedin Town Hall" even though it had no auditorium. The second stage, built in the early 20th century, had not one but two auditoriums; this whole new addition was then officially designated the "Dunedin Town Hall", and the pre-existing office block became the "Municipal Chambers ...
