2016–17 Women's Big Bash League Season
The 2016–17 Women's Big Bash League season or WBBL, 02 was the second season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), the semi-professional women's cricket, women's Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Australia. The tournament ran from 10 December 2016 to 28 January 2017. The Sydney Sixers (WBBL), Sydney Sixers finished the Round-robin tournament, round-robin stage of the tournament in first place and, despite a late-season injury to captain Ellyse Perry, went on to claim their maiden championship. In the final, held at WACA Ground, the WACA, Sydney defeated the Perth Scorchers (WBBL), Perth Scorchers by seven runs in a "veritable classic". Sixers medium-pace bowler Sarah Aley was named Player of the Final, managing figures of 4/23 in the decider and also clinching the title of WBBL, 02 leading wicket-taker. Hayley Nicole Kayla Jensen (born 7 October 1992) is a New Zealand cricketer. She lives in Australia, where she played for the ACT Meteors and in the Women's Big Bash League. Sophie Frances Monique Devine (born 1 September 1989) is a New Zealand sportswoman, who has represented New Zealand in both cricket for the New Zealand national women's cricket team (''White Ferns''), and in field hockey as a member of the New Zealand women's national field hockey team (''Black Sticks Women''). Tamsin Tilley Beaumont (born 11 March 1991) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Kent, The Blaze, Welsh Fire, Sydney Thunder and England. Amanda-Jade Wellington (born 29 May 1997) is an Australian cricketer. She bowls right-arm leg spin and plays for the South Australian Scorpions in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) and the Adelaide Strikers in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). Shelley Nitschke
Shelley Nitschke (born 3 December 1976) is a female cricketer who played for South Australia and Australia. A left-handed batter and left arm orthodox spinner, she was one of the leading all-rounders in the world until her retirement in 2011. In May 2022 Nitschke became the interim head coach of the Australian women's team and was appointed full-time on a four year contract in September 2022. Nitschke made her senior debut in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) for South Australia at the relatively old age of 24 in 2000–01. Tahlia May McGrath (born 10 November 1995) is an Australian cricketer. She made her Women's One Day International cricket (WODI) debut against South Africa on 27 November 2016. Sarah Jane Elliott (; born 4 January 1982) is an Australian former cricketer who played as a right-handed batter and right-arm leg break bowler. She appeared in three Test matches, 22 One Day Internationals and 14 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia between 2005 and 2014. Megan Schutt (born 15 January 1993) is an Australian cricketer who has played for the national team as a medium-fast bowler since 2012. Sarah Jane Cady ( née Coyte; born 30 March 1991) is an Australian cricketer from Camden, New South Wales. A right-arm medium fast bowler, Coyte has taken a total of 100 wickets for the national women's team across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Tegan Jayne McPharlin (born 7 August 1988) is an Australian former cricketer who played as a right-handed batter and wicket-keeper. She played for South Australia and Adelaide Strikers. Andrea McCauley
Andrea McCauley (born 23 September 1965) is an Australian former cricketer and cricket coach. She appeared in one Test match and one One Day International for Australia in 1990, both against New Zealand. She played domestic cricket for South Australia, and was head coach of the side between 2014–15 and 2018–19.
