2016–17 Wisconsin Badgers Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Badgers were led by second-year head coach Greg Gard and played their home games at the Kohl Center as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 27–10, 12–6 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for second place. Wisconsin defeated Indiana and Northwestern in the Big Ten tournament, but lost to Michigan in the championship game. Greg Gard
Gregory Glen Gard (born December 3, 1970) is an American college basketball coach for the Wisconsin Badgers . Gard took over on December 15, 2015, after Bo Ryan announced his retirement as head coach of the Badgers. Gard is a native of Cobb Wisconsin. Coaching career Assistant coach On December 15, 2015, Gard was announced as the interim head coach after Bo Ryan announced his retirement following the Badgers win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Gard had been Ryan's longest-serving assistant, having coached together for 23 years at the time of the transition. They had coached together at three schools—Gard's alma mater of Wisconsin–Platteville, where he had played on the varsity baseball team as a freshman; Milwaukee; and Wisconsin. This was Bo Ryan's 15th season as head coach at Wisconsin, before he resigned 12 games into the season. On December 15, 2015, Ryan announced he would retire effective immediately leaving associate head coach Greg Gard as interim head coach. Aleem Ford
Aleem Ford (born December 22, 1997) is an American - Puerto Rican professional basketball player for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Wisconsin Badgers. High school career Ford initially attended Archer High School, where he averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a senior, earning All-Region 8-AAAAAA honors. D'Mitrik Trice (born May 2, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for ZTE KK of the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A, the top division in Hungary. He played college basketball for the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball, Wisconsin Badgers. Waunakee () is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 14,879 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. The 2016 Big Ten men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big Ten Conference held from March 9 through March 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was the nineteenth annual Big Ten men's basketball tournament and was the second tournament to feature 14 teams of the expanded Big Ten, including Maryland and Rutgers. The championship was won by Michigan State who defeated Purdue in the championship game. As a result, Michigan State received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
