The 2016–17 Winnipeg Jets season was the 18th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997, and the sixth in Winnipeg since the franchise relocated from Atlanta prior to the start of the 2011–12 NHL season. Central Division (NHL)
The NHL's Central Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. Its predecessor was the Norris Division and its also one of two successors to the Northwest Division. The Chicago Blackhawks have been a member of the Central Division in all of its seasons since the original 1993 realignment. The Arizona Coyotes (as the original Winnipeg Jets), Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues were also original members of the division, but were realigned to a different division for a while before returning; both the Coyotes and Stars were moved to the Pacific Division in 1998 (the Stars moved back to the Central in 2013, and the Coyotes followed in 2021), while the Blues were moved to the West Division during the temporary 2021 realignment. The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team, owned by True North Sports & Entertainment, plays its home games at the Canada Life Centre. The franchise was founded in 1999, and played eleven seasons in Atlanta, Georgia as the Atlanta Thrashers before moving to Winnipeg in 2011. The team has played eleven seasons in Winnipeg. After relocation the team struggled to make the playoffs as they qualified for the playoffs just once (in 2015) in their first six seasons. Ondřej Pavelec
Ondřej Pavelec (; born 31 August 1987) is a Czech former professional ice hockey goaltender. Drafted in the second round, 41st overall, by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2005, he stayed with the team as they became the Winnipeg Jets in 2011, and played his final season with the New York Rangers. During the 2012–13 NHL lockout, Pavelec played for Bílí Tygři Liberec of the Czech Extraliga (ELH) and Pelicans of the Finnish SM-liiga. Playing career Junior Pavelec was drafted in the first round of the 2005 CHL Import Draft by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He was also drafted by the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers in the second round, 41st overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Michael Hutchinson (ice Hockey)
Michael Edward Hutchinson (born March 2, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hutchinson was selected by the Boston Bruins in the third round, 77th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Amateur Hutchinson grew up playing minor hockey for the Barrie Icemen (now Jr. Colts) of the OMHA's Eastern AAA League. The 2016–17 Edmonton Oilers season was the 38th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 45th season including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA). This was the Oilers' first season of play at their new downtown arena, Rogers Place. This season also marked the end of their 11-year playoff drought after they clinched the playoffs on March 28 against the Los Angeles Kings for their first playoff appearance since 2006. Eric Comrie
Eric Comrie (born July 6, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Rochester Americans while under contract with the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Jets in the second round (59th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Amateur Comrie was born in Edmonton, Alberta but moved to Newport Beach, California with his family when he was nine. He played minor ice hockey with the LA Selects (now the LA Jr. Kings) in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. Mikhail Berdin (1 March 1998) is a Russians, Russian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). 2011–12 NHL Season
The 2011–12 NHL season was the 95th season of operation (94th season of play) of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Final four games to two to win the team's first Stanley Cup in their second Stanley Cup final appearance; they had lost to Montreal Canadiens in the 1993 Finals. During the off-season, the Atlanta Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to become the "new" Winnipeg Jets. It was the first NHL team relocation since the 1997–98 season, when the Hartford Whalers relocated to become the Carolina Hurricanes.
