2016–17 Providence Friars Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Providence Friars men's basketball team represented Providence College in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Friars, led by sixth-year head coach Ed Cooley, played their home games at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 20–13, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a four-way tie for third place. As the No. 3 seed in the Big East tournament, they lost in the quarterfinals to Creighton. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 11 seed where they lost to USC in the First Four. Previous season The Friars finished the season 24–11, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a tie for fourth place. Ed Cooley
Ed Cooley (born September 10, 1969) is an American college basketball coach and the current head coach of the Providence College Friars men's basketball team. Cooley held the same position at Fairfield University from 2006 to 2011. He received the inaugural 2010 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year Award, presented annually to the top minority men's college basketball coach in the nation. Early years Cooley was born on September 10, 1969 in Providence, Rhode Island to Jane Cooley and Edward Smith. He was one of nine children by his mother in a family on welfare, living in the low-income South Providence neighborhood. However, he would later be taken in by neighbors Gloria and Eddie Searight, who provided Cooley with meals and a place to sleep. Ben Bentil
Benjamin Bentil (born March 29, 1995) is a Ghanaian professional basketball player for Crvena zvezda of the Adriatic League and the EuroLeague. He played two seasons of college basketball for Providence before being drafted 51st overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA draft. Early life Bentil was sent to the United States from Ghana when he was 15 and Bentil's athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to the Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania before leaving for St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware. He played for the school's soccer and basketball teams, ultimately earning a basketball scholarship at Providence. He was a star player for St. Andrew's. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Basketball
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men's basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Hilltoppers currently compete in Conference USA. The team's most recent appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was in 2013. Rick Stansbury was announced as the team's current head coach on March 28, 2016. The men's basketball program has the 16th most victories in the history of the NCAA and has attained the eighth best winning percentage in NCAA history. LeMoyne Dolphins
The Le Moyne Dolphins are the athletic teams that represent Le Moyne College, located in Syracuse, New York, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sporting competitions. The Dolphins compete as members of Northeast-10 Conference. Le Moyne has been a member of the NE-10 since 1996. Temple Hills is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Temple Hills borders the communities of Hillcrest Heights, Marlow Heights, Camp Springs and Oxon Hill. Per the 2020 census, the population was 8,350. The Minnesota Timberwolves are an American professional basketball team based in Minneapolis. The Timberwolves compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference Northwest Division. Kris Dunn
Kristofer Michael Dunn (born March 18, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League. He played four seasons of college basketball for the Providence Friars before being drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
