2016–17 Pittsburgh Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Pittsburgh Panthers men's basketball team represented the University of Pittsburgh during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played its home games at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Panthers were led by first-year head coach Kevin Stallings as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They finished the season 16–17, 4–14 in ACC play to finish in a tie for 13th place. Pitt had their first losing season in 17 years. They defeated Georgia Tech in the first round of the ACC tournament to advance to the second round where they lost to Virginia. On January 24, 2017, Pitt lost by 55 points to Louisville, the team's worst loss since 1906. Kevin Stallings
Kevin E. Stallings (born October 1, 1960) is a former American basketball coach, who formerly served as the head coach at Illinois State University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was an assistant coach at Purdue University and the University of Kansas. Playing career Stallings was born in Collinsville, Illinois. He graduated from Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Illinois in 1978, where he played guard (6'5", 190 lbs.) for four years under legendary coach Vergil Fletcher and won three conference championships. The Kahoks went 30–1 his junior season and lost to De La Salle in the first round of the Illinois state tournament, 67–66. 2016 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball tournament is the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Atlantic Coast Conference and was held at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. from March 8–12, 2016. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA tournament. The tournament included 14 of the 15 ACC teams due to Louisville's self-imposed postseason ban. This was the 20th consecutive ACC Tournament that featured Duke or UNC in the championship game. James Robinson (born March 4, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Igokea of the Adriatic League. He played college basketball for the University of Pittsburgh before playing professionally in Bosnia, Germany and Israel. Early life and college career Robinson attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he won more games (120) than any player in the school's history and lost only one home game. James Patrick Dixon II (born November 10, 1965) is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs men's team, where he played college ball. He previously served as the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team from 2003 through 2016.
