2016–17 Motherwell F.C. Season
The 2016–17 season is Motherwell's thirty-second consecutive season in the top flight of Scottish football and the fourth in the newly established Scottish Premiership, having been promoted from the Scottish First Division at the end of the 1984–85 season. Motherwell will also compete in the League Cup and the Scottish Cup. Season review Following the conclusion of the 2015–16 season, Brett Long, Jack Leitch, David Clarkson and Wes Fletcher were released by the club following the end of their contracts, whilst loan players Connor Ripley and Morgaro Gomis returned to their parent clubs. Also at the end of the 2015–16 season, first team players Steven Hammell, Stephen McManus, Craig Samson, Keith Lasley, Craig Moore, James McFadden, David Ferguson, Ben Hall and Scott McDonald were all offered new contracts, as were Under 20 players Dylan Mackin, Robbie Leith, Jack McMillan, Ross MacLean and Ryan Watters. Motherwell F
Motherwell ( sco, Mitherwall, gd, Tobar na Màthar) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. Motherwell is also geographically attached to Wishaw and the two towns form a large urban area in North Lanarkshire, with both towns having similar populations and strong community ties. Jack Leitch
Jack Leitch (born 17 July 1995) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Stirling Albion. A midfielder, he started his career with Motherwell and was a product of the Motherwell Academy. In 2016, he moved to Airdrieonians and had one season with the ''Diamonds''. Leitch then played for Peterhead for three seasons before signing for Stirling Albion in 2020. Career Motherwell On 30 November 2013, Leitch made his debut for Motherwell as a substitute in a surprise 1–0 defeat against Lanarkshire derby opponents Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup. His first start came on 1 March 2014, in a 4–1 win against Heart of Midlothian. On 4 June 2014, Leitch signed a new two-year contract at Motherwell. Scott McDonald
Scott Douglas McDonald (born 21 August 1983) is an Australian former professional footballer and is the current head coach for National Premier Leagues club Gold Coast Knights. Originally a striker, McDonald could also play as an attacking midfielder. Born in Dandenong, McDonald commenced his senior footballing career with Gippsland Falcons in the National Soccer League before moving to Great Britain in 2001. He subsequently played for a wide range of clubs, including representing Southampton in the Premier League and Celtic and Motherwell in the Scottish top flight. Ben Hall (born 16 January 1997) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as a defender for NIFL Premiership side Linfield. Club career Motherwell Born in Enniskillen, Hall started his career at Mountjoy United then moved to Irish League side Dungannon Swifts. In the summer of 2013, Hall signed a two-year contract with Scottish Premiership club Motherwell. In his first two seasons, Hall had become a regular in the Motherwell Under-20 setup. David Ferguson (footballer, Born 1996)
David Ferguson (born 24 March 1996) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a defender for East Kilbride. Ferguson is a product of the Motherwell Academy. He has also played for Ayr United and Peterhead, and has spent time on loan at Alloa Athletic, Annan Athletic, Airdrieonians, Dumbarton and Berwick Rangers. James McFadden
James Henry McFadden (born 14 April 1983) is a Scottish football coach and former professional player who played as a forward. McFadden started his playing career with Motherwell, where he came to prominence in the 2002–03 season by scoring 19 goals and winning the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award. Everton signed McFadden for £1.25 million in 2003. McFadden struggled to hold down a regular place in the Everton first-team and moved to Birmingham City for £5 million in January 2008. A serious injury meant that McFadden missed most of the 2010–11 season and the ''Blues'', who were relegated in his absence, decided not to renew his contract. Craig Moore (born 16 August 1994) is a Scottish association football, footballer who plays as a Forward (association football), forward for Darvel F.C., Darvel. Keith Lasley
Keith William Robert Lasley (born 21 September 1979) is a Scottish retired football midfielder, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Scottish Premiership club St Mirren. During his playing career, Lasley played for Motherwell, Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool. Life and career According to '' Daily Record'' article, Lasley was born in Paisley, Scotland. Craig Samson
Craig Ian Samson (born 1 April 1984) is a Scottish football player and coach who is currently with Aberdeen. Samson is a former Scotland under-21 internationalist, having made six appearances between 2004 and 2005. He began his playing career with Kilmarnock, but made only one league appearance and spent time on loan to Queen of the South and St Johnstone before leaving the club in 2005. He then spent a season each with Dundee United, Ross County, Dundee, Hereford United and Ayr United. Stephen McManus
Stephen David McManus (born 10 September 1982) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player who is a first team coach at Scottish Premiership club Celtic. McManus, who played as a centre-back, was a product of Celtic's youth academy and rose through the ranks to become first team captain ahead of the 2007–08 season. He held this position until his move to Middlesbrough in 2010. After two loan spells with Bristol City, McManus finished his career with four seasons at Motherwell. Steven Hammell
Steven Hammell (born 18 February 1982) is a Scottish football coach and former player, who manages Scottish Premiership club Motherwell. Hammell played as a left-back for Motherwell in almost 500 league games across two spells, either side of a stint with Southend United. Hammell also played once for Scotland, in 2004. Hammell retired from playing in 2018. After a period as Motherwell's academy director, he became their manager in August 2022. Morgaro Gomis
Morgaro Lima Gomis (born 14 July 1985) is a Senegalese professional footballer who last played as a defensive midfielder for Kelantan United. Starting his career in France, Gomis spent most of his early career in English non-League football before moving to Scottish Football League side Cowdenbeath. His performances earned him a move to Dundee United in January 2007, where he exceeded expectations and was young player of the year for 2007–08. He was part of the Dundee United side that won the Scottish Cup in 2010 and was the first African to have played 100 times for the club.
