The 2016–17 Macedonian Football Cup was the 25th season of Macedonia's football knockout competition. Shkëndija are the defending champions, having won their first title in the previous year. Klubi i Futbollit Shkëndija () commonly known as Shkëndija, is a football club based in Tetovo, North Macedonia. Their home stadium is Ecolog Arena and they currently play in the Macedonian First League. In the 2010–11 season of the Macedonian First Football League, the club won its first major championship. History SFRY Period KF Shkëndija was formed on 27 August 1979 by ethnic Albanians from Tetovo. The purpose of forming the club was so that the Albanians throughout Yugoslavia could unite in supporting a club for Albanians. FK Shkëndija was frowned upon by Yugoslav officials as it was thought the club would awaken nationalist feelings among the Albanians of Yugoslavia. Starting at the lowest division in Yugoslavia, the Municipal League, KF Shkëndija played their first match against FK Kosmos, winning 4–0. KF Vëllazërimi 77 ( mk, ФК братство 77) is a football club based in Kičevo, North Macedonia. They are currently not playing in any of the four highest tiers of Macedonian football. History KF Vëllazërimi entered in the Macedonian First League in the 2005–2006 season and they were the sensation of the league after their great start. But, after some economic problems a lot of the players left the team, however Vëllazërimi managed to stay in the league. The 2006–2007 season found Vëllazërimi with new financial problems and they finished 12th (last) in the league getting relegated. The relegation forced change at the top and the new club chairman was named Gani Arsllani. He sacked coach Nazmi Ajdini referring to the poor results shown in the past year, and named Igor Nikolaevski as the new coach. FK Sileks ( mk, ФК Силекс) is a football club based in Kratovo, North Macedonia who play in the Macedonian First League. History The club was founded in 1965. Sileks biggest accomplishment in 90s came in the Yugoslav Cup where they reached the quarter-final. It was a remarkable achievement considering they defeated both Sarajevo teams, FK Željezničar and FK Sarajevo in back to back rounds. KF Renova ( mk, ФК Ренова) is a football club based in the village of Džepčište, Tetovo Municipality, North Macedonia. They recently competed in the Macedonian First League. History FK Renova was founded in 2003 but was derived from the football school established in 2000. As a result of successful work in 2003, the people from Džepčište began to invest in this school of football. Since then, the football school was named Renova, after the Džepčište based manufacturing company, which invested the most to the club. FK Gorno Lisiče ( mk, ФК Горно Лисиче) is a football club from Gorno Lisiče in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. They currently play in the 3.MFL (North). History The club played its first match in 1940 under the name ''Lisiče'' against ''Lebane'' from Leskovac. Over the years, the team has used a few different names, first ''Udarnik'' and later ''Bratstvo Edinstvo''. For a period of time it also used the name ''Tehnokom'', a firm that saved the club when it was in financial trouble.
