2016–17 Kategoria Superiore
The 2016–17 Kategoria Superiore was the 78th official season, or 81st season of top-tier football in Albania (including three unofficial championships during World War II) and the 17th season under the name Kategoria Superiore. Skënderbeu were the defending champions. The season began on 7 September 2016 and concluded on 27 May 2017. On 20 May 2017, Kukësi defeated the reigning champions Skënderbeu 2–0 to clinch their first-ever league title, in only their fifth season in the top-flight. Teams Changes Ten teams competed in the league – the top eight teams from the previous season, as well as two teams promoted from the Kategoria e Parë. Korabi defeated Ada 1–0 at the Reshit Rusi Stadium on the final matchday of the regular season in Group A of the Kategoria e Parë to secure promotion to the Kategoria Superiore after a 54-year absence. Kategoria Superiore
The Kategoria Superiore, officially known as Abissnet Superiore for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Albanian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Kategoria e Parë. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The competition was founded in 1930 as the Albanian National Championship during the reign of King Zog, shortly after the creation of the Albanian Football Association. Selman Stërmasi Stadium
The Selman Stërmasi Stadium ( sq, Stadiumi Selman Stërmasi) is a multi-purpose stadium in Tirana, Albania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of KF Tirana. The stadium holds 9,500 people (all seated). It is named after Selman Stërmasi, one of KF Tirana's best players of all time. Flamurtari Stadium
Flamurtari Stadium ( sq, Stadiumi Flamurtari) is a multi-use stadium in Vlorë, Albania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of KS Flamurtari Vlorë. The stadium has a capacity of 8.200 people. Before the construction of the stadium, Flamurtari Vlorë played their home games on a field known as Varri i Halimit, which translates to Halimi's Tomb. Vlorë ( , ; sq-definite, Vlora) is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Vlorë County and Vlorë Municipality. KF Bylis, also known as Bylis Ballsh, is an Albanian football club based in Ballsh, Mallakastër District. The club's home ground is the Adush Muça Stadium and they currently compete in the Kategoria Superiore. KF Apolonia is an Albanian football club based in Fier. The club was founded on 17 June 1925 and took its name from the nearby ruins of the ancient city of Apollonia. KF Ada is an Albanian football club based in the city of Velipojë which is situated in Shkodër County. The club's home ground is the Reshit Rusi Stadium and they currently compete in the Kategoria e Dytë.
