2016–17 Belarusian Cup
2016–17 Belarusian Cup was the twenty sixth season of the Belarusian annual cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. The first matches were played on 11 June 2016. Winners of the Cup qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League. Participating clubs The following teams took part in the competition: First round The first round was contested by 30 teams. Zvezda-BGU Minsk were given a bye to the second round by drawing of lots. The other 13 First League clubs, 13 Second League clubs and 4 amateur teams were drawn into 15 fixtures, with lower league club in each pair to play at home. The club plays in the Belarusian Premier League, the top division in Belarusian football. In 2019, Dynamo won its first Belarusian Premier League title. The club has also won the Belarusian Cup in 2007, 2017 and 2018. History Origins The club was founded in 1960 as Spartak Brest and joined Soviet Class B (second-tier league) the same year. After the 1962 season, they were relegated as a result of league reorganization. They came close to promotion twice in 1964 and 1967 but lost the final round both times. They were finally promoted on their third attempt in 1969, but the following year they again dropped to the third tier due to league reorganization. Since 1992, the team has participated in the top league of Belarus. History Since 1964, the team was playing in the third tier of the Soviet football system almost constantly, excluding two seasons (1968 and 1969) spent in the second tier. Since 1992, Neman plays in the Belarusian Premier League. In 1993, they won the Belarusian Cup. FC Oshmyany was a Belarusian football club based in Ashmyany (Oshmyany), Grodno Oblast. History The club was founded in 2012 as Slavyanin Minsk and was originally based in Minsk.
