2016–17 Arizona Coyotes Season
The 2016–17 Arizona Coyotes season was the 38th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, the 21st season since the franchise relocated from Winnipeg following the 1995–96 NHL season, and the 45th overall, including the World Hockey Association years. This season marked the end of the Shane Doan era, as he retired from the NHL after playing 21 seasons for the Winnipeg Jets-Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes franchise. Doan was the last remaining active player from the original Winnipeg Jets team, following Teemu Selanne's retirement in 2014. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. Arizona Coyotes
The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Coyotes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference and currently play at the Mullett Arena in Tempe. They first played at America West Arena (now Footprint Center) in downtown Phoenix from 1996 to 2003 and then played at Glendale's Gila River Arena (now Desert Diamond Arena) from 2003 to 2022. Founded on December 27, 1971, as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), they were one of four franchises absorbed into the NHL after the WHA had ceased operations, joining on June 22, 1979. Justin Peters
Justin Peters (born August 30, 1986) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He was selected in the second round, 38th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Peters played 83 career games for the Hurricanes, Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes. Playing career After playing Junior A hockey with the Vaughan Vipers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL), Peters began a four-season Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and Plymouth Whalers. Peters scored an empty-net goal in Game 7 of the first-round of the 2004 OHL playoffs against the Sudbury Wolves while playing for the Majors. 2016–17 Anaheim Ducks Season
The 2016–17 Anaheim Ducks season was the 24th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 15, 1993. The Ducks won the Pacific Division for a fifth straight year and the sixth time in franchise history. Anaheim faced the wild-card entrant Calgary Flames in the opening round of the playoffs, where they defeated them in a four-game sweep. They then defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the next round, four games to three. The Ducks then went on to face the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference Finals, where they lost in six games. Marek Langhamer
Marek Langhamer (born 22 July 1994) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender, currently playing for Ilves in the Finnish Liiga. Playing career After a few seasons playing as a youth within the HC Pardubice organization, Langhamer was selected in the 7th round, 184th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Following the draft, Langhamer transitioned to the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League. During his second season with the club, the Coyotes signed Langhamer to a three-year, entry-level contract on 8 May 2014. 2016–17 Los Angeles Kings Season
The 2016–17 Los Angeles Kings season was the 50th season (49th season of play) for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. The Kings did not qualify for the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs, finishing with 86 points. In March 2017, former Calgary Flames star Jarome Iginla signed with the Kings to play the remainder of the season there. Iginla retired after the season. Later that same month, longtime broadcaster Bob Miller announced he would retire after the season. Teemu Ilmari Selänne (; born July 3, 1970) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey winger. He began his professional career in 1989–90 with Jokerit of the SM-liiga and played 21 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche.
