2016–17 2. Liga (Slovakia)
2. liga, currently named DOXXbet liga due to sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest division in the Slovak football league system after the Fortuna Liga. The 2016–17 season of the DOXXbet liga will be the 24th season of the second-tier football league in Slovakia, since its establishment in 1993. For the third time in history (and for now for the last time), teams will compete in two groups, with top six sides from each of groups will advance to the championship round and all other teams will play in relegation groups. From the 2017–18 season, 2. Liga will feature 16 teams playing in nationwide group. Changes from last season In Eastern group will play only 10 teams. Team changes *1. FC VSS Košice
FC VSS Košice was a Slovak football club based in Košice which played in the Slovak 2. Liga during the 2016–17 season. The club officially ceased operations on 27 July 2017. The club, founded in 1903, has won the Slovak League twice, the Slovak Cup five times and the Czechoslovak Cup once. The most successful eras of the club were in the 1970s and 1990s which they spent mostly in the top tier of Czechoslovak and Slovak Football. FC ŠTK 1914 Šamorín
ŠTK 1914 Šamorín is a Slovak football team, based in the town of Šamorín. The club was founded in 1914. In the season 2009/2010, they were promoted to Slovak Third League. In season 2015/16 the club was promoted to the Slovak Second League. History The club was founded on 1 June 1914 (original name in hungarian Somorjai Testgyakorlók Köre). Their first stadium (in Pomlé, Šamorín) was opened in 1930. Their first game in the stadium, against FSV Vienna was a sweet 2–0 victory in front of 1,500 spectators. ŠTK proudly announced that there will be places for more kids to play (Mladsi, Starsi ziaci and Dorast). This has brought a big success, because according to the 2010 statistics, almost 400 kids play football there. MŠK Žilina () is a Slovak football club based in the town of Žilina, that is playing in the Slovak Superliga.
