The following is a list of notable events that are related to Philippine music in 2016. Events January * January 1 – Myx introduces the four new VJs of the channel, Sharlene San Pedro, Jairus Aquino, Sarah Carlos and Alex Diaz. * January 9 – Members from the classic line-up of Rivermaya consisting of Perf de Castro, Nathan Azarcon, Mark Escueta and Rico Blanco reunite at 19 East, Taguig City after an invitation from de Castro following his gig. The gig, which they dubbed as a "secret semi-reunion", was composed of Blanco on keyboards, de Castro on guitars, Azarcon on bass guitar and Escueta on drums. Blanco and de Castro simultaneously switch over lead vocals all throughout the performance while Azarcon and Escueta provided backing vocals. Sharlene San Pedro
Sharlene Santos San Pedro (born April 5, 1999) is a Filipino actress, singer, vlogger, streamer, VJ, and TV host. She made her first television appearance at the age of four when she joined ABS-CBN's talent search '' Star Circle Quest: Kids Edition'' in 2004, and came in at second place. She is known for portraying the roles of Gigi, Calla & Lily, and Shirley in the series ''Mga Anghel na Walang Langit'', ''Calla Lily'', and ''Luv U'' respectively. She also played the title role in ''Princess Sarah'' in 2007. San Pedro received her first acting award as the "Most Popular Child Actress" by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation in 2009. Star Music (stylized in lowercase as starmusic; formerly known as Star Records), is a record label in the Philippines owned and operated by media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corporation. Yohan Hwang
Yohan Hwang, also known as Yohan King, (born November 27, 1995) is a South Korean singer based in Manila, Philippines. He rose to fame after joining and eventually winning the first season of ''I Love OPM''. Yohan later went on to perform a Korean-language cover of the Yeng Constantino single " Ikaw" for the Tagalog-language dub of ''Love in the Moonlight''. Francis Magalona
Francis Michael Durango Magalona (October 4, 1964 – March 6, 2009), also known by the moniker Francis M, was a Filipino rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, actor, and television personality. Born in Manila, He became a significant influence to artists in the Pinoy hip-hop scene and the local rap community. Beyond music, Magalona was also a television host on MTV Asia and Channel V Philippines and on the noontime variety television show ''Eat Bulaga!''. Magalona died on March 6, 2009, seven months after being diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. Magalona was later awarded a posthumous Presidential Medal of Merit. Abra (rapper)
Raymond Abracosa (born December 2, 1990), better known as Abra, is a Filipino rapper, hip hop recording artist and occasional actor. He gained mainstream popularity with his song "Gayuma". When the video reached more than 26 million views on YouTube, it was hailed as the highest number generated by any local artist. Before that, he is a well-known battle emcee in the FlipTop Battle League. Career His career started as a member of Pinoy hip hop group Lyrically Deranged Poets (LDP) in 2010. Santa Cruz is a district in the northern part of the City of Manila, Philippines, located on the right bank of the Pasig River near its mouth, bordered by the districts of Tondo, Binondo, Quiapo, and Sampaloc, as well as the areas of Grace Park and Barrio San Jose in Caloocan and the district of La Loma in Quezon City. AlDub is a Philippine supercouple which first appeared in the Kalyeserye portion of the "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment of the variety show ''Eat Bulaga!'' They were also called as the "phenomenal love team" due to their rise in popularity after they were accidentally paired on the July 16, 2015 episode of the Problem Solving portion of "Juan for All, All for Juan" which later became the first episode of Kalyeserye.
