2016 Women's European Water Polo Championship
The 2016 Women's European Water Polo Championship was held from 10 to 22 January 2016 in Belgrade, Serbia. Hungary won their third title by defeating the Netherlands 9–7 in the final. Italy captured the bronze medal after a 10–9 win over Spain. Qualification Format The twelve teams were split into two groups of six teams. The first four placed teams advance to the knockout stage, from which on a knockout-system will be used to determine the final positions. Draw The draw was held on 4 October 2015. Rita Keszthelyi (born 10 December 1991) is a Hungarian water polo player. At the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, she competed for the Hungary women's national water polo team in the women's tournament. She scored two of the goals that helped Hungary win the bronze medal match at the 2020 Olympics. She has played more than 300 water polo matches for Hungary. Clara Espar Llaquet (born 29 September 1994) is a Spanish water polo player who won the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest and at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju. College career Espar attended San Jose State University, playing on the women's water polo team from 2014 to 2015. She scored 96 goals as a freshman and 94 as a sophomore being the first player in San Jose State history to score at least one goal in every single match in a season. International career In 2018 she won the gold medal at Mediterranean Games in Tarragona and the bronze at European Championship in Barcelona. Maria Elisabete da Silva Duarte Matos GOIH OIH (born 6 September 1964) is a Portuguese soprano and politician. In January 2022 she was elected to the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic as a member of the Socialist Party, representing the Braga constituency. Biography Elisabete Matos was born in 1964 in Caldas das Taipas, Guimarães, Portugal and she began her first musical studies in at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga.
