2016 Women's Basketball Invitational
The 2016 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2016 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament or 2016 Women's National Invitation Tournament. The 2016 field was announced Monday, March 14. All games were hosted by the higher seed throughout the tournament, unless the higher seed's arena was unavailable. First round WBI games were held March 16 and 17 while second-round games were held March 19 and March 20. The tournament semifinals were held March 23 with the 2016 WBI Championship game played on March 26. The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the Weber State Wildcats in double-overtime, winning the WBI for the second consecutive season. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball program represents intercollegiate women's basketball at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The 2015–16 Weber State Wildcats women's basketball team represented Weber State University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Wildcats were led by fourth year head coach Bethann Ord and played their home games at the Dee Events Center as members of the Big Sky Conference. The 2015–16 UMBC Retrievers women's basketball team will represent the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the America East Conference. The Retrievers were led by fourteenth year head coach Phil Stern and will once again play their home games in the Retriever Activities Center. The 2015–16 Grand Canyon Antelopes women's basketball team represents Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, during the 2015–16 college basketball season. It was head coach Trent May's ninth season at Grand Canyon. The Antelopes compete as members of the Western Athletic Conference and played their home games at GCU Arena.
