The 2016 Winchester City Council election took place on 5 May 2016 to elect members of Winchester City Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. Every seat was contested following boundary changes which saw the number of seats reduce from 57 to 45. The count for this election was conducted on 7 May 2016. The 2015 Winchester City Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Winchester City Council in England. In total, 20 out of 57 council seats were up for election. The Conservatives gained majority control of Winchester City Council from No Overall Control, following the defection of two former Conservative councillors to the Liberal Democrats in 2014. The City of Winchester () is a local government district in Hampshire, England, with a city status. The district covers the ancient settlement of the city of Winchester itself, but also covers a large area of central Hampshire including Bishop's Waltham, Denmead, New Alresford, and Kings Worthy (for a full list of these, see the "Settlements and parishes" section below), for a total area of . The 2016 United Kingdom local elections held on Thursday 5 May 2016 were a series of local elections which were held in 124 local councils and also saw 4 mayoral elections in England which also coincided with elections to the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the London Assembly, the London mayoral election and the England and Wales Police and crime commissioners.
