Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Šafářová in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–3 to win the doubles tennis title at the 2016 WTA Finals. Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza were the defending champions, but were defeated in the semifinals by Makarova and Vesnina. Ekaterina Valeryevna Makarova ( rus, Екатери́на Вале́рьевна Мака́рова; ; born 7 June 1988) is a Russian former professional tennis player who was ranked world No. 1 in doubles, and world No. 8 in singles. Lucie Hradecká (; born 21 May 1985) is a Czech former professional tennis player. A three-time Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam doubles champion and 26-time WTA Tour doubles titlist, she reached her career-high doubles ranking of world No. 4 in October 2012.
