2016 Volta A Catalunya
The 2016 Volta a Catalunya was a road bicycle racing, road cycling stage race that took place in Catalonia, Spain, from 21 to 27 March. It was the fifth race of the 2016 UCI World Tour and the 96th edition of the Volta a Catalunya. The race included seven stages. Two of these included summit finishes, so the favourites for the race were all climber (cycling), climbers. Favourites for overall victory included Chris Froome (), Alberto Contador (), Nairo Quintana () and the defending champion Richie Porte (): the race was the first meeting of several of the riders expected to feature in the Grand Tour (cycling), Grand Tours later in the season. The first two stages were Nacer Bouhanni (). He then withdrew through illness on the third stage, which included the first summit finish. 2016 UCI World Tour
The 2016 UCI World Tour was a competition that included 27 road cycling events throughout the 2016 men's cycling season. It was the eighth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 19 January, and concluded with Il Lombardia on 1 October. Spain's Alejandro Valverde was the two-times defending champion. Valverde was unable to defend his title, as he finished fourth in the individual rankings. The title was won for the first time by Slovakian rider Peter Sagan for the team, scoring 669 points over the course of the season. This included victories at Gent–Wevelgem, the Tour of Flanders and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. Mataró
Mataró () is the capital and largest town of the ''comarca'' of the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia Autonomous Community, Spain. Calella

2016 Tirreno–Adriatico
The 51st edition of the Tirreno–Adriatico cycling stage race was held from 9 to 15 March 2016. It was the third event of the 2016 UCI World Tour. Due to the cancellation of stage 5, the race was run over six stages, covering a total distance of . Route The route for the 2016 Tirreno–Adriatico was announced in December 2015 in Camaiore, where the race starts. The first stage is a team time trial on the coast. The second – and first road stage – finishes on a short climb, suiting classics riders. The third and fourth stages have flat finishes, favouring sprinters. The fifth stage is the queen stage of the race: it features five categorised climbs, finishing with the ascent of Monte San Vicino. The sixth stage again suits sprinters. 2016 Paris–Nice
The 2016 Paris–Nice was a road cycling stage race that took place in France between 6 and 13 March 2016. It was the 74th edition of the Paris–Nice and was the second event of the 2016 UCI World Tour. The race took place over eight stages, travelling south from Conflans-Sainte-Honorine to finish on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, although one stage was cancelled due to weather conditions. After a prologue individual time trial, the first few stages were suited to sprinters. The decisive stages came on the final two days, with routes taking the riders through the Alps. The favourites for victory were therefore the climbers, including the defending champion Richie Porte (), Alberto Contador () and Geraint Thomas (). Port Ainé
Port Ainé is a ski resort located in Rialp, in the Catalan Pyrenees, inaugurated in 1986. The ski area extends from 1,650 to 2,440 meters. Cycling In March 2013, Port Aîné hosted the fourth stage of the Volta a Catalunya . Daniel Martin won at the top ahead of Joaquim Rodríguez and at the same time became the leader of the race. La Molina (ski Resort)
La Molina is a ski resort in the Pyrenees mountains of northeastern Spain, in the municipality of Alp in the ''comarca'' of Cerdanya in Girona, Catalonia. Together with Masella, it forms the Alp 2500 resort. It is the site of the first ski lift in Spain, opened on 28 February 1943, and Spain's first ski school, which opened a year later. It is served by a RENFE / Rodalies train station. Sport and recreation The area hosted World Cup alpine races in December 2008 (women's technical events) and hosted the Snowboarding World Championships in January 2011. Sprinter (cycling)
A sprinter is a road bicycle racer or track racer who can finish a race very explosively by accelerating quickly to a high speed, often using the slipstream of another cyclist or group of cyclists tactically to conserve energy. Apart from using sprinting as a racing tactic, sprinters can also compete for intermediate sprints (sometimes called ''primes''), often to provide additional excitement in cities along the route of a race. In stage races, intermediate sprints and final stage placings may be combined in a points classification.
