2016 Speedway European Championship
The 2016 Speedway European Championship season was the fourth season of the Speedway European Championship (SEC) era, and the 16th UEM Individual Speedway European Championship. It was the fourth series under the promotion of One Sport Lts. of Poland. The championship was won by Nicki Pedersen, who claimed the title for the first time. He won by two points from Václav Milík, who beat Krzysztof Kasprzak in a run-off for second place. Grigory Laguta and Leon Madsen finished fourth and fifth to ensure qualification for the 2017 competition. Two-time defending champion Emil Sayfutdinov finished seventh. Qualification For the 2016 season, 15 permanent riders were joined at each SEC Final by one wild card and two track reserves. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He has won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008 and was a World Cup winner with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. His brother, Ronni Pedersen, has also ridden in the Speedway Grand Prix and World Cup. Career Domestic teams Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish second division club Start Gniezno and has since ridden for GTŻ Grudziądz, Wybrzeże Gdańsk, ZKŻ Zielona Góra and ŻKS ROW Rybnik. Between 2006 and 2007 he rode for Stal Rzeszów and since 2008 he has ridden for Włókniarz Częstochowa. Pedersen rides for Dackarna in the Swedish Elitserien, and Holsted in the Danish Super League. Fredrik Lindgren (speedway Rider)
Jan Fredrik Tobias (Freddie) Lindgren (born 15 September 1985) is a Swedish motorcycle speedway rider. He has twice won the bronze medal at the Speedway World Championship and won the world team championships in 2015. Career Born in Örebro, Sweden. Lindgren's father Tommy was a speedway rider before him, and his younger brother Ludvig also rides. Lindgren first appeared for Wolverhampton Wolves during the 2003 season as the team struggled with injuries. At the age of just 17, Freddie made his debut for the team and impressed enough to be brought back the following season when again injuries hit the club. In 2005, he moved over to full-time and averaged 7.44 for Wolves in his debut full season and in 2006 he improved to average 8.12. Artem Grigoryevich Laguta (russian: Артём Григорьевич Лагута; born 13 November 1990) is a Russian motorcycle speedway rider and member of the Russian national team. He is the 2021 World Champion. Career details Laguta became the Russian champion in 2010 and 2011. He is also a three times world team champion with Russia after partnering Emil Sayfutdinov during three consecutive years, as Russia won the Speedway of Nations in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Martin Smolinski
Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984, in Munich, West Germany) is a former international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider from Germany. He is eight times champion of Germany. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Coventry retained him for the following two seasons and his form improved over the next two seasons. In 2006, he signed for his first Polish club Rybnik and in 2007 became the German Champion for the first time. Also in 2007, he won the league and cup double with Coventry during the 2007 Elite League speedway season. He was a regular team member of the German speedway team at senior level and represented them in the annual Speedway World Cup.
