The 2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the eighth edition of the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the 2016 ATP World Tour. The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (previously known as ATP Masters Series) is an annual series of nine tennis tournaments featuring the top-ranked players on the ATP Tour. Florian Mayer (; born 5 October 1983) is a German former professional tennis player. Mayer reached his career-high singles ranking of world No. 18 in June 2011.
