2016 San Antonio FC Season
The 2016 San Antonio FC season was the club's inaugural season. Including the San Antonio Thunder of the original NASL and the former San Antonio Scorpions of the modern NASL, this was the 7th season of professional soccer in San Antonio. The club played in the United Soccer League, the third tier of the United States soccer league system, and also participated in the U.S. Open Cup. North American Soccer League (2011–2017)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional men's soccer league based in the United States. The league was named for, but had no connection to, the original North American Soccer League. The later NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 with eight teams. From 2013 through 2017, the NASL used a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined spring/fall records met in a four-team single-elimination tournament known as ''The Championship''. The winner of the final claimed the Soccer Bowl trophy. Matt Cardone
Matt Cardone (born June 18, 1993) is an American former soccer player who played for San Antonio FC in the USL Championship. Early life and education Cardone was born in San Antonio, Texas. He played college soccer at Trinity University between 2011 and 2014, where he was twice named All-America. Professional career After a trial with Major League Soccer's Orlando City SC, Cardone signed with North American Soccer League side San Antonio Scorpions on April 17, 2015. STAR Soccer Complex
The South Texas Area Regional Soccer Complex is a 13 field soccer venue in San Antonio, Texas, United States. It is used primarily for youth club soccer and adult league soccer. It is located in the former Longhorn Quarry, adjacent to Toyota Field, and Morgan's Wonderland, and near Heroes Stadium. Toyota Field was originally owned and operated by S.O.A.R. Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Gordon Hartman. The complex was affiliated with the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League, also owned by Hartman. On December 22, 2015, it was announced that Toyota Field and S.T.A.R. Soccer Complex were sold to the City of San Antonio and Bexar County. Carlos Alvarez (soccer, Born 1990)
Carlos Alvarez (born November 12, 1990) is an American soccer coach and former professional player who played as a midfielder. As of 2022, he works as a youth coach for San Diego Surf SC. Youth and college career Alvarez was born in Los Angeles, California on November 12, 1990. He attended Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Los Angeles, where he played soccer. He then continued to University of Connecticut, where he continued his soccer career. He majored in Spanish. Orlando City SC is an American professional soccer club in Orlando, Florida, that competes as a member of the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer (MLS). Elon Phoenix Men's Soccer
The Elon University Phoenix Men's Soccer team was founded in 1972 as a member of the NAIA, the team moved to NCAA Division II in 1989 and finally to NCAA Division I in 1999. The program is currently under the direction of head coach Marc Reeves. Darren Powell led the Phoenix to a .500 or better record in each of his 5 seasons at the helm. Elon Soccer won its first conference championship in 2008, the Southern Conference regular season.
