2016 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
The 2016 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup was the tenth season of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. After the selection event held from 16 to 18 October 2015 at Circuito Guadix in Spain and pre-season testing, held from 1 to 4 April 2016 in Circuito de Jerez, Jerez, the season began at the same track on 23 April and ended on 25 September at the Ciudad del Motor de Aragón after 13 races. The races, for the fourth year contested by the riders on equal KTM 250cc 4-stroke Moto3 bikes, were held at seven meetings on the 2016 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, Grand Prix motorcycle racing calendar. The championship was won by Japanese rider Ayumu Sasaki at the last race. The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is a motorcycle racing series contested by young, up-and-coming motorcycle riders, who have not had experience in a motorcycle grand prix previously. The class was founded in 2007, and since then a number of the rookies have progressed through to the 125cc/Moto3 championship in MotoGP. Prior to the 2013 season, a 2-stroke KTM RC 125cc engine was used. The year 2013 saw a change of machinery to the 4-stroke KTM RC250RBR, following the introduction of the four-stroke Moto3 class. Victor Steeman (15 June 2000 – 11 October 2022) was a Dutch motorcycle racer. He competed in the Supersport 300 World Championship intermittently from 2018 until 2022 when he died from his injuries from a crash at the first race of Portimão round of that season. Biography Supersport 300 World Championship Born in Zevenaar, Steeman made his world debut in 2018 in the Supersport 300, participating in the last two races of the 2018 season as a replacement rider.
