2016 President's Cup (Maldives)
The 2016 President's Cup is the 66th season of the President's Cup. Maziya Sports and Recreation Club are the defending champions, having beaten New Radiant Sports Club in last season's final. This is the second tournament under its current tournament format. Participating teams Final draw Venues Background Format The first round, or group stage, was a competition between the 6 teams divided among two groups of three, where each group engaged in a round-robin tournament within itself. The two highest ranked teams in each group advanced to the knockout stage. Teams were awarded three points for a win and one for a draw. When comparing teams in a group over-all result came before head-to-head. For any match after the group stage, a draw after 90 minutes of regulation time was followed by two 15 minute periods of extra time to determine a winner. Club Eagles, formerly known as Eagles Malé, is a sports club based in Malé, Maldives. It is best known for its football team. The team were promoted to Dhivehi League in 2006 and relegated back to the Second Division the next season. They were again promoted to the top division in 2011, after several years. Riste Naumov
Riste Naumov ( mk, Ристе Наумов; born 14 April 1981) is a retired Macedonian football forward. Club career Following his transfer from AC Omonia in January 2008 to Ethnikos Achnas, Naumov was a prolific goal-scorer, scoring 12 goals in 16 appearances and was therefore the leading scorer in the second round of the Cypriot first division. At FK Viktoria Žižkov, who were at that time in the Czech First League, he played regularly and was their top scorer in a season (2008–9) which saw them relegated. His move to SK Slavia Prague came as a result. However at Slavia he only managed 14 appearances, several as substitute, in two seasons and was released at the end of the 2010–11 season. Ali Ashfaq
Ali Ashfaq (; born 6 September 1985) is a Maldivian professional footballer who plays as a forward and captains the Maldives national team. Nicknamed "Man of Steel" (), he is regarded as one of the best players in the South Asian region. A prolific and individualistic goalscorer, he is a free-kick specialist and a clinical finisher. His trademark style of scoring is beating the defenders and rounding off the keeper to score. ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. Feydhoo (Seenu Atoll)
Feydhoo (Dhivehi: ފޭދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of the Addu Atoll (formerly known as Seenu Atoll). The people of Feydhoo are former residents of Gan. Gan was a very fertile island with its coconut palms, breadfruit trees, yam, binbi and numerous other types of trees flourishing. Even during the Second World War, the people of Gan were economically self-sufficient. However, in 1956/1957 they had to leave their livelihood they had been enjoying for so long, forever because the British Royal Air Force leased the island to build RAF Gan, a military base on the island. Naiz Hassan (born 10 May 1996), commonly known as Dhaadhu, is a Maldivian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Maziya S&RC in Dhivehi Premier League. Career Born in the Maldives, Naiz helped T.C. Sports Club secure promotion to the Dhivehi Premier League in 2014. After the season, he was named best player at his club.
