2016 Muntinlupa Local Elections
Local elections were held in Muntinlupa on May 9, 2016, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the congressman, and the 16 councilors, eight each in the two local legislative districts of Muntinlupa. Background Incumbent Jaime Fresnedi is running for a fifth nonconsecutive term as Mayor of Muntinlupa. He was a former city legal officer before elected vice mayor from 1988 until he was elected mayor in 1998. He ran for mayor in 2010; however, he was defeated by then incumbent Aldrin San Pedro. He ran again and won in the 2013 elections. His opponents are former mayor Aldrin San Pedro and incumbent vice mayor Artemio Simundac. Jaime dela Rosa Fresnedi (born April 27, 1950), also known as Jimmy Fresnedi, is a Filipino politician, lawyer, and businessman currently serving as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the Lone District of Muntinlupa, Metro Manila since 2022. He previously served as the mayor of Muntinlupa from 1998 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2022 and vice mayor of Muntinlupa from 1987 to 1998. Early and personal life Fresnedi was born on April 27, 1950. He is married to Loreta Obong, with whom he has a son named Joma and a grandson named Neo. They reside in the Villa Carolina subdivision in Tunasan, Muntinlupa. Fresnedi also owns two Caltex gasoline stations in Muntinlupa. Legislative District Of Muntinlupa
The legislative districts of Muntinlupa are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Muntinlupa in the Congress of the Philippines. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress through its lone congressional district. History Muntinlupa was initially represented as part of the at-large district of the province of Manila in the Malolos Congress from 1898 to 1899. The then-town was later incorporated to the province of Rizal, established in 1901, and was represented as part of the first district of Rizal from 1907 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1972. During World War II, it was represented as part of the at-large district of Rizal in the National Assembly of the Second Philippine Republic from 1943 to 1944. Local elections in the Philippines were held on May 9, 2016. This was conducted together with the 2016 general election for national positions. All elected positions above the barangay (village) level were disputed.
