2016 MotoGP Season
The 2016 FIM MotoGP World Championship was the premier class of the 68th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Season summary Jorge Lorenzo was the defending world champion, having secured his third MotoGP title and fifth overall Championship title at the 2015 Valencian Community Grand Prix. The riders' championship title was won for the third time by Marc Márquez, after his fifth victory of the season at the Japanese Grand Prix has given him an unassailable lead over his title rivals Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi – who both crashed out at Motegi – with three races remaining. Márquez's title marked a return to the top step for Honda after a difficult 2015 campaign for its factory team. Márquez ultimately won the championship by 49 points. The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM; en, International Motorcycling Federation) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 116 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions. 2016 Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 2016 Italian motorcycle Grand Prix was the sixth round of the 2016 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It was held at the Mugello Circuit in Scarperia on 22 May 2016. The MotoGP race was settled by a mere 0.019 seconds as Jorge Lorenzo pulled out of Marc Márquez' slipstream on the final straight on the final lap after a dramatic duel between the two, whilst polesitter Valentino Rossi lost a chance at challenging for a home win due to an engine failure. This race marks Rossi's first bike failure since the 2007 San Marino Grand Prix. This race was the last race for Luis Salom before he was fatally injured after an accident during practice session at the following Grand Prix in Barcelona. Maverick Viñales Ruiz (; born 12 January 1995) is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer. Viñales is the 2013 Moto3 World Champion, currently riding in MotoGP for the Aprilia Racing team, after five seasons as a MotoGP factory rider with the Yamaha Factory Racing team, his contract was terminated by mutual consent midway through the 2021 season. The 2016 Australian motorcycle Grand Prix was the sixteenth round of the 2016 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. Cal Crutchlow (born 29 October 1985) is an English professional motorcycle racer who retired from regular competition after the 2020 season. He is contracted as a test rider for Yamaha Motor Racing, which he is expected to continue in 2022 and 2023. Esteve "Tito" Rabat Bergada (born 25 May 1989) is a Spanish motorcycle racer. He is best known for winning the 2014 Moto2 World Championship. Rabat then made the move to MotoGP in 2016 and spent five full-time seasons there, before moving to the Superbike World Championship in 2021.
