2016 Kentucky House Of Representatives Election
The 2016 Kentucky House of Representatives elections were held on November 8, 2016, as part of the biennial United States elections. All 100 of Kentucky's state representatives were up for reelection. In Kentucky, members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms. Accordingly, they are up for reelection in both presidential and midterm election years. Republicans gained 17 seats in the election, winning the chamber outright. This ended nearly 100 years of Democratic control of the house, as the last time that Republicans won a majority was in 1919. Republicans performed well in rural districts and flipped many seats held by Democrats, including Democratic Speaker Greg Stumbo who lost reelection. David Floyd
David W. Floyd (born October 2, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for District 50. Floyd dropped out after filing for re-election in 2016 when Republican Chad McCoy challenged Floyd in the primary. Floyd was later appointed to be KY House Chief of Staff in 2018, after which controversy arose over his campaign contributions to his new boss Speaker David Osborne who appointed him. Floyd was known for pushing to abolish the death penalty in Kentucky. Floyd earned his BS from the United States Air Force Academy, and his MA in aeronautics from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University. Brent Yonts
Brent Yonts (March 21, 1949 – August 20, 2021) was an American politician and a Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from District 15. He took office in 1997 and was defeated for re-election in 2016 by Republican Melinda Gibbons Prunty. Yonts died from COVID-19 at a hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky, on August 20, 2021, aged 72. DJ Johnson (politician)
DJ Johnson (born 1957) is an American politician who has been serving in the Kentucky House of Representatives as a Republican for the 13th district representing parts of Daviess County since 2021. He lives in Owensboro, Kentucky. Johnson had previously represented the district from 2017 to 2019.
