2016 Karnataka State Film Awards
The 2016 Karnataka State Film Awards, presented by Government of Karnataka, felicitated the best of Karnataka cinema released in the year 2016. The list of winners were announced on 11 April 2017. The awards were presented on 24 April. Lifetime achievement award The jury committee for selecting the lifetime achievement awards was headed by actress Jayanthi. Jury A committee headed by director Kavitha Lankesh was appointed to evaluate the awards. Other jury members were actress Rekha Rao, cinematographer Basavaraj, Director KN Vaidyanath and singer Chandrika Gururaj. Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah (born 3 August 1947), also referred to by his nickname Siddu, Siddaramaiah served as Chief Minister of Karnataka from 13 May 2013 to 17 May 2018 and currently serving as the leader of the opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly since 9 December 2019. He belongs to Indian National Congress party and a member of Congress Working Committee. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years. Earlier, as a Janata Dal (Secular) leader, he was the deputy chief minister of Karnataka on two occasions. On 13 May 2013 he was sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka. He has presently continued as the opposition leader of Karnataka despite his resignation, which was not accepted at higher levels and continued his tenure. Railway Children (film)
''Railway Children'' is a 2016 Indian Kannada feature film written and directed by Prithvi Konanur. It is inspired from ''Rescuing Railway Children'' written by Lalitha Iyer and Malcolm Harper that describes the lives of children that run away from their homes, live in railway stations and trains, and grow up as criminals, despite their intentions being harmless and seeking only to earn a living. Produced by TinDrum Beats, the film featured mostly non-actors. The plot revolves around a 12-year-old runaway who falls into the hands of a gang involved in illegal businesses. Manohara K., Syed Pervez, Yash Shetty, Divya M. R., Karthik and Parimala appear in lead roles. The film premiered at the Mumbai International Film Festival in October 2016. Manohara won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist and Karnataka State Film Award for Best Child Actor (Male) for his performance. It is a story of a convict on death row, who escapes from prison and accidentally ends up traveling with a retired veteran of a Police Department, who is called upon by the authorities to teach the process of executing a convict to the new staff. Prashant Shetty, known professionally as Rishab Shetty, is an Indian actor and film maker who primarily works in Kannada cinema. Rakshit Shetty
Rakshit Shetty (born 6 June 1983) is an Indian actor, film producer, writer and filmmaker of Kannada cinema. He is the recipient of two Filmfare Awards South. Early life Shetty was born in Udupi on 6 June 1983 in a Tulu-speaking Bunt family. He completed his schooling at his hometown. During his schooling days he was an avid '' Pili Nalike'' dancer, a folk dance in the ''Tulu Nadu region''. ''Kirik Party'' is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by G. S. Guptha and Rakshit Shetty. Madipu
''Madipu'' is a 2017 Indian Tulu film directed by Chethan Mundadi. Highlighting the futility of the orthodox traditions practiced in the region of Tulu Nadu, the film focuses on Bhootaradhane, a practice of worshipping and appeasing demigods; Buta Kola; and relations between the Hindus and Muslims in the region.
