2016 Ironman World Championship
The 2016 Ironman World Championship was a long distance triathlon competition that was held on October 8, 2016 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It was won by Jan Frodeno of Germany and Daniela Ryf of Switzerland, both repeat champions from 2015. The race was the 40th edition of the Ironman World Championship, which has been held annually in Hawaii since 1978. The championship was organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and awarded a total purse prize of $650,000. Iván Raña
Iván Raña Fuentes (born 10 June 1979) is a Spanish triathlete and the winner of three medals in the World Triathlon Championships between the years of 2002-2004. He also has won three medals at the European League Triathlon as well, between the years of 2001-2003. He competed in three Olympics as well: Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and Beijing in 2008, where he won two Olympic Diplomas for fifth place in both Sydney and Beijing. Athletic career Raña participated in the first Olympic triathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He took fifth place with a total time of 1:49:10.88. An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a swim, a bicycle ride and a marathon run completed in that order, a total of . It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Most Ironman events have a time limit of 16 or 17 hours to complete the race, course dependent, with the race typically starting at 7:00am. The mandatory cut off time to complete the swim is 2 hours 20 minutes. Lucy Gossage (born 25 December 1979) is a British doctor and former triathlete and duathlete, who currently works at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. As an athlete, Gossage competed in Ironman Triathlon events, was twice European duathlon champion, and won multiple Ironman Triathlon events.
