The 2016 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the 21st season of the Icelandic Men's League Cup, a pre-season professional football competition in Iceland. The tournament started on 12 February and was conclude on 21 April. KR won the league cup after defeating Víkingur R. in the final 2–0. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (Reykjavík Football Club), often shortened to KR or KR Reykjavík, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. KR is the oldest and most successful club in Icelandic football, having won the Besta deild karla championship 27 times, including the first season in 1912. Knattspyrnufélag Akureyrar, abbreviated KA, is an Icelandic multi-sport club based in Akureyri in the north of Iceland. The club was founded in 1928. The football team currently plays in Besta deild karla and have won the top flight once in 1989. Club The club offers various sports including football, handball, judo, volleyball and racket sports. Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs (HK) or HK Iceland is an Icelandic sports club from the town of Kópavogur, mainly known for its football and handball teams.
