800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Carly Tait
Carly Tait (born 2 January 1986) is a British wheelchair athlete specialising in sprint and middle-distance events in the T34 classification. Early years Tait, who has cerebral palsy, was born in 1986 - daughter of Andrew Tait and Victoria Tait. She was educated at Ashton-on-Mersey high school before attending South Trafford College. She matriculated to the University of Central Lancashire where she achieved a degree in marketing, communications and advertising. Athletics career Tait took up wheelchair racing in 2012, after being inspired by the Summer Paralympics in London. She first tried out disability athletics sport in November 2012, and after becoming classified as a T34 athlete she began competing at national meets in 2013. T53 (classification)
T53 is disability sport classification for disability athletics. The class includes people with a number of different types of disabilities including spinal cord injuries. People in this class have full use of their arms but have no or limited trunk function. Similar classifications are T51, T52, and T54. People in this class have a functional upper limbs, but limited trunk usage and limited lower limb functionality. During classification, they both undergo a bench test of muscle strength and demonstrate their skills in athletics. Hamide Kurt Doğangün (born Hamide Kurt, December 25, 1993) is a Turkish Paralympian athlete competing in the T53 disability class sprint events of 100m and 400m, T52/ T53 class middle-distance event of 800m as well as T53/ T54 class 4 × 400 m relay event. Early years Hamide Kurt was born in Istanbul, Turkey on December 25, 1993. At the age of nine, she had a traffic accident in Istanbul. After nearly two years of treatment in a hospital, she lost the ability to walk, and became reliant on a wheelchair. Sporting career Hamide Kurt began her sporting career in wheelchair basketball at Bağcılar Belediye SK in Istanbul. After realizing that she is not good in this sport branch, she switched over to the para-athletics in the same club. Gunilla Wallengren (born 2 May 1979) is a Swedish Paralympic athlete who competes in middle-distance events in international level events. Natalia Kocherova (born 23 February 1990) is Russian Paralympic wheelchair and cross-country skier from Omsk. Early life Kocherova was born in Yegorovka, Russia in 1990. An accident resulted in her right leg being amputated above the knee. Skiing career Kocherova first major international event as a Nordic skier was at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. There she competed in two events, the 12 km Free (sitting) where she finished ninth, and the 1 km Sprint (sitting), which after taking the twelfth and final spot during qualification, she qualified for the final, finishing in fifth position. T54 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics in the track and jump events. The class includes people with spinal cord injuries who compete using a wheelchair in track events. They have paraplegia, but have normal hand and arm function, normal or limited trunk function, and no leg function. 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships
The 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships was a track and field competition for athletes with a disability open to International Paralympic Committee (IPC) affiliated countries within Europe, plus Israel. It was held in Grosseto, Italy and took part between 10 and 16 June. The competition was staged at Stadio Olimpico Carlo Zecchini. Approximately 700 athletes from 35 countries attended the games. This was the last edition of the event held under the IPC Athletics title. Russia topped the medal tables in both gold medals won (51) and total number of medals won (131). Bernadett Biacsi
Bernadett Biacsi (born 29 December 1985) is a Hungarian Paralympic athlete competing mainly in category T20 middle-distance events. Biacsi competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, finishing fourth in the 1,500m race in her classification. Biacsi won the silver medal at the European Championship in the 1,500 metres in 2014.
