2016 Honduran Supercup
The 2016 Honduran Supercup was a match arranged by the Honduran Liga Nacional which took place on 8 July 2016 between C.D. Honduras Progreso, winners of the 2015–16 Liga Nacional (Apertura tournament) and Club Deportivo Olimpia, winners of the 2015 Honduran Cup. This was the first Honduran Supercup since 1999 after the 2015 edition was abandoned with no disclosed reason. Qualified teams Background C.D. Honduras Progreso qualified as reigning champions of the 2015–16 Honduran Liga Nacional (Apertura); meanwhile Club Deportivo Olimpia entered as the 2015 Honduran Cup winners. Honduras Progreso defeated C.D. Motagua in the Apertura finals on penalty shoot-outs after a 4–4 aggregated score. Olimpia was crowned as Cup winners after a convincingly 3–1 over Platense F.C. in the final match. Club Deportivo Olimpia
Club Deportivo Olimpia is a professional Honduran football club based in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán. The club is the nation's most successful team both in the domestic league and in international club competitions. History Olimpia was founded as a baseball club on June 12, 1912, by Héctor Pineda Ugarte, Carlos Bram, Arturo Bram, Enrique Buik, Santiago Buik, Miguel Sanchez, Samuel Inestrosa Gómez, and Ramón Field. In 1917, it also became a football team. C.D. Olimpia is the most successful football team in Honduras, having won 31 domestic league titles since it was founded in 1912, the latest being the 2019–20 Apertura & Clausura season. Carlo Costly
Carlo Yaír Costly Molina (; born 18 July 1982) is a Honduran professional footballer who plays as a striker for Liga de Ascenso club Lone FC. Prior to moving to Europe, he played with Platense, where he was the top scorer of the Honduras Apertura in 2006–07. Club career Carlo Costly is the son of Anthony Costly. Despite being Honduran, he has close links to Mexico. His parents separated and his mother, soon after, married a Mexican. Costly moved to Mexico City when he was 14 years old and lived there for the following 11 years where he kicked off his football career. Yoro is one of the 18 departments into which Honduras is divided. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds.
