2016 UCI Europe Tour
The 2016 UCI Europe Tour was the twelfth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2016 season began on 28 January 2016 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Santanyí-Ses Salines-Campos and ended on 23 October 2016 with the Chrono des Nations. French rider Nacer Bouhanni (), who scored 721 points in the 2015 UCI Europe Tour, 2015 edition, was the defending champion of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour. Throughout the season, points were awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. Francesco Gavazzi (born 1 August 1984) is an Italian professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career Gavazzi was born in Morbegno. In 2012, Gavazzi participated in the Tour of Beijing and won its queen stage leading to the Great Wall of China. To add to the difficulty of the day, the air quality was deemed as "severely polluted" by the local authorities. Gavazzi closed down an attack by 's Edvald Boasson Hagen and grabbed the victory. Nicola Ruffoni (born 14 December 1990) is an Italian racing cyclist. Career He competed in the 2014 Giro d'Italia, but failed to finish within the time limit on stage 11. He rode in the 2015 Giro d'Italia, but withdrew on stage 15. In May 2017, one day before the start of the 2017 Giro d'Italia, the UCI announced that Ruffoni and team-mate Stefano Pirazzi had tested positive for growth hormone-releasing peptides in out-of-competition controls carried out the previous month.
