2016 GP Ouest-France
The 2016 Bretagne Classic Ouest–France was the 80th edition of the former GP Ouest–France road bicycle race, now known as the Bretagne Classic. The race took place on 28 August 2016. Teams The eighteen UCI World Tour teams are automatically entitled and obliged to start the race. The race organisation will still hand out a few wildcards to some UCI Professional Continental teams. 2016 UCI World Tour
The 2016 UCI World Tour was a competition that included 27 road cycling events throughout the 2016 men's cycling season. It was the eighth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 19 January, and concluded with Il Lombardia on 1 October. Spain's Alejandro Valverde was the two-times defending champion. Valverde was unable to defend his title, as he finished fourth in the individual rankings. The title was won for the first time by Slovakian rider Peter Sagan for the team, scoring 669 points over the course of the season. This included victories at Gent–Wevelgem, the Tour of Flanders and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. Michael Matthews (cyclist)
Michael James Matthews (born 26 September 1990) is an Australian professional road and track cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Early career He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder, and in 2010 he became the Under 23 Road Race World Champion. Matthews left at the end of the 2012 season, and joined on an initial two-year contract from the 2013 season. Orica–GreenEDGE (2013–2016) Matthews was selected to ride the 2014 Giro d'Italia. His team won the opening team time trial in Belfast. On Stage 2, Matthews finished eighth behind Marcel Kittel in a sprint finish, also in Belfast, to take the pink jersey for the leader of the general classification from teammate Svein Tuft. Edvald Boasson Hagen
Edvald Boasson Hagen (born 17 May 1987) is a Norwegian professional road racing cyclist, who rides for UCI ProTeam . He was ranked as no. 3 in the world by UCI as of 31 August 2009, when he was 22 years old. He is known as an all-rounder, having won the Norwegian National Road Race Championships in 2012, 2015 and 2016. He is also a ten-time winner of the Norwegian National Time Trial Championships. Matteo Trentin (born 2 August 1989) is an Italian professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Professional career In 2014, Trentin took a prestigious victory on Stage 7 of the Tour de France, where he won the sprint by a few centimeters over Peter Sagan. Trentin had also won a stage of the same race on his maiden Tour start in 2013, winning in a sprint in Lyon against his breakaway counterparts. In October 2015, Trentin won Paris–Tours in record time for a race over 200 km, thus becoming the new ''Ruban Jaune''. By winning the fourth stage in the 2017 Vuelta a España, he completed the set of at least one stage win in each of the Grand Tours. Giacomo Nizzolo (born 30 January 1989) is an Italian racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Leopard Trek (2011–18) Nizzolo took his first win at UCI World Tour level in August 2012, on stage 5 of the Eneco Tour. Maciej Paterski
Maciej Paterski (born 12 September 1986) is a Polish professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Career Born in Kalisz, Paterski left at the end of the 2013 season, and joined for the 2014 season. He had quite a successful 2014 season, winning the Tour of Norway and the mountains classification in his native Tour de Pologne. Later that year, he also won the Memoriał Henryka Łasaka. He started the 2015 season in good form, placing 6th at the Vuelta a Murcia and winning the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya. John Degenkolb (born 7 January 1989) is a German professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . His biggest wins to date are the 2015 Milan–San Remo and the 2015 Paris–Roubaix, two of cycling's five monuments. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. Oliver Naesen (; born 16 September 1990) is a Belgian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Considered a specialist of the one-day classics, he won the 2017 Belgian National Road Race Championships, as well as the Bretagne Classic in 2016 and 2018. He is the brother of fellow racing cyclist Lawrence Naesen. Bretagne Classic
The Bretagne Classic, also called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France, is an elite cycling classic held annually in late summer around the Breton village of Plouay in western France. The race was originally named Grand–Prix de Plouay and, from 1989 to 2015, GP Ouest–France. It was included in the inaugural UCI ProTour in 2005 and in 2011 in its successor, the UCI World Tour. Since 2016 it is called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France. Since 2002, a women's event, the GP Plouay–Bretagne is organized on Saturday, the day before the men's race. Road Bicycle Race
Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators.
