2016 Dally M Awards
The 2016 Dally M Awards were presented on Wednesday 28 September 2016. They are the official annual awards of the National Rugby League and are named after Dally Messenger. Cooper Cronk and Jason Taumalolo became just the second joint winners of the Dally M Medal after both players tied with 26 votes apiece. Judges Judges are usually ex-players which have an involvement in that game such as commentary. Such judges in 2016 included Brad Fittler, Darren Lockyer and Braith Anasta Dally M Medal Dally M Awards The Dally M Awards are, as usual, conducted at the close of the regular season and do not take games played in the finals series into account. The Dally M Awards are the official annual player awards for the National Rugby League competition. As well as honouring the player of the year, who received the Dally M Medal, awards are also given to the premier player in each position, the best coach, the best captain, representative player of the year and the most outstanding rookie of the season. The awards are named in honour of Australian former rugby league great Herbert Henry "Dally" Messenger. History The awards were introduced in 1979 by News Limited. National Youth Competition (rugby League)
The NRL Under-20s (known commercially as the Holden Cup due to sponsorship from Holden) was the top league of professional rugby league for players aged 20 years or younger in Australasia. Contested by sixteen teams, the Under-20s competition commenced in 2008 and was originally known as the Toyota Cup. The competition runs parallel to Australasia's professional competition, the National Rugby League, with NYC matches played immediately prior to the NRL games. Similar to the NRL, the NYC enforces a salary cap and puts a heavy focus on life outside football for the players. Peter Frilingos
Peter Frilingos (1944–2004) was a sports journalist and commentator, best known for his work as a rugby league writer. His reporting methods and integrity came under severe scrutiny during the Super League war. While he originally supported the ARL, he began openly endorsing Super League after a closed door meeting with News Limited management. Peter "Bullfrog" Moore
Peter Sydney "Bullfrog" Moore OAM (1932 – 5 July 2000) was an Australian rugby league administrator, particularly associated with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, where he was Chief Executive from 1969 to 1995, serving a record 26 years at the helm. The Canterbury club won four grand finals during his time as its CEO, and he was largely considered responsible for fostering the proud "family" culture for which the club became renowned.
