2016 Copa Libertadores Femenina
The 2016 Copa Libertadores Femenina was the eighth edition of the Copa Libertadores Femenina, South America's premier women's club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The tournament was played in Uruguay from 6 to 20 December 2016. In the first final without a team from Brazil, Paraguayan team Sportivo Limpeño won their first title against Estudiantes de Guárico from Venezuela. Teams The competition was contested by 12 teams: the champions of all ten CONMEBOL associations were given one entry, additionally the title holders re-entered and the host association qualified one more team. The qualifying competitions of each association usually end late in the year (September to December). The Colombian tournament finished last, in fact only a week after the final draw was made. Club Sportivo Limpeño
Club Sportivo Limpeño is a Paraguayan football club based in Limpio that currently plays in Primera División B. History Despite being founded in 1914, Sportivo Limpeño only joined the Paraguayan Football Association in 2013, being formerly affiliated to the UFI. The club had a successful debut, winning the Primera División C. After four seasons, the club was relegated back to Primera C, but achieved promotion by finishing as runners-up and will play again in the Primera B. Women's team Sportivo Limpeño has become more known because of its women's team, which participates in the Paraguayan women's championship since 2009. It finished as runners-up in 2014 and won the title in 2015 and 2016. The club also won the Copa Libertadores Femenina in 2016. The 2012 Copa Libertadores Femenina was the fourth edition of the Copa Libertadores Femenina, CONMEBOL's premier annual international women's football club tournament. São José were the defending champions. Colo Colo won the title after a penalty shootout in the final, and became the first non-Brazilian team to win the tournament. The topscorer award was given to Cristiane for a second time and the best player award was won by Karen Araya from Colo Colo. On 28 September 2012 it was confirmed that all matches were to be played in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The 2015 Copa do Brasil de Futebol Feminino was the ninth staging of the competition. The competition started on February 4, 2015, and concluded on April 8, 2015. 32 clubs of all regions of Brazil participated of the cup, which was organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Competition format The competition was contested by 32 clubs in a knock-out format where all rounds were played over two legs and the away goals rule was used, but in the first two rounds, if the away team won the first leg with an advantage of at least three goals, the second leg would not be played and the club automatically qualified to the next round.
