2016 Cavite Local Elections
Local elections were held in Cavite on May 9, 2016, as part of the 2016 general election. Voters will select candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and representatives for the seven districts of Cavite. Originally, incumbent Governor Jonvic Remulla was set running for his final term under Partido Magdalo and supported by the Estrada-Binay-led (and Aquino's administration opposition party) United Nationalist Alliance along with Vice-Governor Jolo Revilla, however, he later dropped out and was replaced by his brother Jesus Crispin Remulla, who ran solo instead. Background Their rivals, who belong to the Liberal Party, will not be fielding a candidate for the gubernatorial post. Jesus Crispin Remulla
Jesus Crispin "Boying" Catibayan Remulla (born March 31, 1961) is a Filipino lawyer, politician, and broadcaster currently serving as Secretary of Justice since 2022. He previously served as the representative of Cavite's 7th district from 2019 to 2022, the position he previously held from 2010 to 2013, and currently the House Senior Deputy Majority Leader. He also served as the provincial governor of Cavite from 2016 to 2019, and was the representative of the province's 3rd district from 2004 to 2010. He is also a radio host for "Executive Session" on DZRH. Remulla is one of the vocal opponents against ABS-CBN and is among the 70 congressmen who voted to reject the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. Elpidio Barzaga
Elpidio "Pidi" Frani Barzaga Jr. (born March 25, 1950) is a Filipino lawyer and politician from the province of Cavite. He is the incumbent Congressman of Dasmariñas and is the mayor of the said city. During the 2020 House hearing on ABS-CBN franchise renewal, Barzaga infamously cited Wikipedia as his source. On July 10, 2020, Barzaga is one of the 70 representatives who voted to reject the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. He is the congressman under National Unity Party (NUP). Jennifer Narvaez Austria-Barzaga (born September 22, 1975) is a Filipino politician who has been the Mayor of the City of Dasmariñas since 2019 and had previously held this position from 2007 until 2016. The People's Reform Party ( abbrev. PRP) is a political party in the Philippines. Founded on April 12, 1991, as the political party of former Agrarian Reform Secretary Miriam Defensor Santiago for her bid as president in the 1992 Presidential Elections.
