2016 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
The 2016 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race was a road cycling one-day classic that took place on 31 January 2016 in Victoria, Australia. The race, which covered a distance of , started and finished in Geelong, where it used a circuit similar to that used in the 2010 world championships road race. It was the second edition of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. The race was won in a solo attack by Peter Kennaugh (). He attacked from a small group on the final climb and held off the chasers for the to the finish line. He finished six seconds ahead of a group of 19 riders: the sprint for second was won by Leigh Howard () with Niccolò Bonifazio () third. Peter Kennaugh
Peter Robert Kennaugh MBE (born 15 June 1989) is a Manx former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2019 for and . In 2012 he won the gold medal as part of the Great Britain Team Pursuit team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Manxman in 100 years to win gold. On 5 April 2019, he announced that he was taking an indefinite break from professional cycling to focus on his mental health. Dion Smith (born 3 March 1993) is a New Zealand cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Smith was born in Taupaki in Rodney District. He attended Massey High School. Career Born in Marostica, Italy, Battaglin was signed by Colnago at the age of 17 because they felt he had a lot of potential, but spent 4 years in the youth ranks before graduating to the main team. The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race also known as Great Ocean Road Race or Cadel Road Race is an annual professional one-day road bicycle racing for both men and women starting and finishing in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, and routed along the picturesque Great Ocean Road. The first race was held in 2015, as the farewell race for Cadel Evans—Australia's only Tour de France winner or Road World Champion. The 2017 edition was added to the UCI World Tour for the first time. In November 2020, it was announced that the 2021 race would not be held due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. This was due in part to a number of UCI WorldTour teams making the decision to stay in Europe due to uncertainty around international travel conditions and logistics of quarantine requirements. Leigh Howard (born 18 October 1989) is an Australian professional Cycle sport, racing cyclist. He qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in both the Men's Madison and Men's Team Pursuit.
