2016 CAF Champions League Qualifying Rounds
The 2016 CAF Champions League qualifying rounds were played from 12 February to 20 April 2016. A total of 55 teams competed in the qualifying rounds to decide the eight places in the group stage of the 2016 CAF Champions League. Draw The draw for the preliminary, first and second rounds was held on 11 December 2015 in Dakar, Senegal. The entry round of the 55 teams entered into the draw was determined by their performances in the CAF competitions for the previous five seasons ( CAF 5-Year Ranking points shown in parentheses). Format In the qualifying rounds, each tie was played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. A total of 57 teams competed in the qualifying rounds to decide the eight places in the group stage of the 2015 CAF Champions League. The entry round of each team was determined by their ranking points calculated based on performances in continental club championships for the period 2010–2014. Coton Sport Football Club de Garoua, or simply Coton Sport, is a Cameroonian football club based in Garoua. Étoile du Congo is a Congolese football club based in Brazzaville. History L’Étoile du Congo started as a team in the Fédération Athlétique Congolaise (FAC), a league run by Catholic missionaries in the Belgian Congo. The church provided clothes and shoes and the team was required to attend mass. The team, known at the time as Renaissance, won the Brazzaville city championship each year from 1945 to 1950 led by team-captain Dominique Sombo.
