The 2016 AFL Europe Championship was an 18-a-side Australian rules football competition held in London, United Kingdom between European countries. This was the third AFL Europe Championship, run by AFL Europe. Matches were played at Motspur Park in London. Contested between four national teams, the Championships were won by Great Britain. The 2013 AFL Europe Championship was a 16-a-side Australian rules football competition held in Dublin, Ireland between European countries. This was the second AFL Europe Championship, run by AFL Europe. Matches were played at DCU Sportsground in northern Dublin. AFL Europe Championship
The AFL Europe Championship is an Australian football competition played between European national teams. The European Championship is played in a full traditional 18-a-side format (formerly 16-a-side) unlike the Euro Cup which has a 9-a-side format. It is organised by AFL Europe and held every three years. Players are not paid to participate. Eligibility is similar to the Australian Football International Cup with national team representatives restricted to nationals - citizens who were resident in the country between the ages of 10 and 16. The inaugural competition was played in Sweden and Denmark in August 2010. AFL Europe is the regional governing body for Australian rules football in Europe. As of 2018, it organises the AFL Europe Championship and the Euro Cup, and previously managed the ''European Legion'' representative team as well being responsible for the organisation of the ANZAC Cup, Fitzpatrick Cup and AFL Europe Champions League. Great Britain National Australian Rules Football Team
The Great Britain men's national Australian rules football team is known as the Great Britain Bulldogs. The team is made up of the best British born players selected from clubs of in England, Wales and Scotland, and occasional appearances from British players playing for clubs in Australia. In AFL Europe, separate national teams represent England, Wales and Scotland. Australian Rules Football In Germany
Australian rules football in Germany is currently played by six clubs within the Australian Football League of Germany (AFLG) the governing body. Three clubs run metro leagues. The Dresden Wolves compete in the CAAFL of the Czech Republic and some other formative clubs play on an ad hoc basis within Germany. History The Frankfurt Redbacks and Munich Kangaroos were founded in 1995 and had been playing since 1996. Ireland National Australian Rules Football Team
The Irish national Australian rules football team ( ga, Foireann peile rialacha na hAstrálie náisiúnta na hÉireann) represent Ireland in Australian rules football and is selected from the best Irish born and raised players primarily from the clubs of the Australian Rules Football League of Ireland but also playing abroad. Australian rules football has been played in Sweden since 1993, with the game currently played in Helsingborg, Malmö, Lund, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Karlstad, Falun, Norrtälje and Uppsala. A national governing body was formed in 2007 under the name ''Svenska Australisk Fotbollsförbundet'' or ''AFL Sweden''.
