2015–16 Rugby-Bundesliga
The 2015–16 Rugby-Bundesliga is the 45th edition of this competition and the 96th edition of the German rugby union championship. In the Rugby-Bundesliga, sixteen teams play in two regional divisions, followed by play-offs consisting of the top two teams in each division. The regular season started on 29 August 2015 and finished on 24 April 2016, followed by the semi-finals and the championship final, the latter held on 7 May 2016, with the DRV-Pokal and the promotion-relegation play-off continuing until June 2016. The season was interrupted by a winter break from early November to early March. The defending champions were Heidelberger RK who defeated TV Pforzheim 53–27 in the 2015 final to take out its twelfth championship and sixth in a row. The club thereby also equaled a championship record, becoming the second club after TSV Victoria Linden to win six consecutive titles. TV Pforzheim
The TV Pforzheim is a German rugby union club from Pforzheim, currently playing in the Rugby-Bundesliga, having won promotion to the league in 2011. Apart from rugby, ''TVP'' offers other sports like gymnastics, volleyball and track and field. History The club, formed as gymnastics club on 19 April 1834, does not have quite such a long history in the sport of rugby union. The side did not field an independent team throughout most of the early 2000s, instead fielding a joined side with Karlsruher SV Rugby. In 2008, ''TVP'' finally entered its own side again in the Rugby-Regionalliga Baden-Württemberg, coming fourth. RG Heidelberg
The RG Heidelberg (''german: Rudergesellschaft Heidelberg'', literally "Heidelberg Rowing Club") is a German rugby union club from Heidelberg, currently playing in the Rugby-Bundesliga. Apart from rugby, the club also offers the sport of rowing. History The club was formed on 4 June 1898 as a rowing club. Out of necessity to have an alternative sport in winter, frozen rivers made rowing naturally impossible, the rugby department of the club was formed in 1919. The ''RGH'' was the third rugby club to be formed in Heidelberg, after the Heidelberger RK and the SC Neuenheim, making it easy for the new team to find opposition to play against. Berliner Rugby Club
The Berliner Rugby Club is a German rugby union club from Berlin, currently playing in the Rugby-Bundesliga. History The club was formed in 1926. While very successful in its youth department, it has not managed similar achievements on the senior level. The club has yet to win a national championship, having appeared in the 1989 German rugby union championship final, where it lost 6-20 to TSV Victoria Linden. Two lost Cup finals also stand to its name. In the 2007-08 Rugby-Bundesliga season, the club finished in fourth place, its best result in the league since adoption of the single-division format in 2001.
