2015–16 NWHL Season
The 2015–16 NWHL season is the first season of operation of the National Women's Hockey League. Four teams competed for the inaugural Isobel Cup: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, New York Riveters, and Connecticut Whale. League business * July 2015: The NWHL Foundation hosted a Canadian Training Camp Series in four different Canadian cities (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Windsor). *Late July 2015: A training camp for European players took place at Ristuccia Memorial Arena outside Boston on July 23, hosted by Boston Pride head coach Bobby Jay. National Women's Hockey League
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), formerly the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), is a women's professional ice hockey league located in the United States and Canada. The league was established in 2015 with four league-owned teams and has since grown to a mixture of seven independently owned teams: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force and Toronto Six. The Isobel Cup, the league's championship trophy, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season. Gigi Marvin
Gisele Marie "Gigi" Marvin (born March 7, 1987) is an American ice hockey player for the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League. As a member of the United States national women's ice hockey team, Marvin won a silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the 2014 Winter Olympics, and a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Her grandfather is Cal Marvin, the coach of the 1958 United States Men's National Ice Hockey Team and the manager of the 1965 United States Men's National Ice Hockey Team, is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. She hails from Warroad, Minnesota, in Roseau County, the same small northern Minnesota town as 1960 gold medalists Bill and Roger Christian and 1980 gold medalist Dave Christian and 2018 Stanley Cup champion T. Denna Laing
Denna Christine Laing (born May 12, 1991) is an American former professional ice hockey player. She last played for the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) until a career-ending injury. At the collegiate level, she accumulated 77 points while competing for the Princeton Tigers women's ice hockey program from 2010 to 2014. She was also the captain her junior and senior year. Playing career CWHL Selected in the 8th round of the 2014 CWHL Draft, Laing played for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) during the 2014–15 season, accumulating two points in 18 games played. Yekaterina Vyachslavovna Smolentseva (russian: Екатерина Вячеславовна Смоленцева, born 15 September 1981) is a Russian former professional ice hockey player and member of the Russian national ice hockey team. She played sixteen seasons with the Russian national team, during which she participated in four women's ice hockey tournaments at the Winter Olympic Games, in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014, and eleven IIHF Women's World Championships, winning bronze at the tournaments in 2001, 2013, and 2016. Nana Fujimoto
is a professional Japanese ice hockey player for Vortex Sapporo and the Japanese national team. Fujimoto was previously a starting goaltender for the New York Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). Career Fujimoto participated at the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship and was named best goalkeeper of the tournament. Fujimoto was signed by the New York Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League on 27 July 2015. Fujimoto played as the starting goaltender for the franchise's first season and was selected as a starter for the 2016 All-Star Game. Blake Bolden
Blake Alexis Bolden (born March 10, 1991) is an American ice hockey player and scout for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). On October 11, 2015, she became the first African-American player to compete in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL; rebranded Premier Hockey League (PHF) in 2021). Brittany "The Otter" Ott (born June 12, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey player. , Ott plays for the New Hampshire region team in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. Jaimie Leonoff (born January 28, 1990) is a Canadian ice hockey executive and former goaltender, who last played for the Connecticut Whale of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She currently serves as NY Hockey Holdings business analyst for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career From 2011 to 2015, she attended Yale University in the United States, serving as the Yale Bulldogs starting goaltender every year except her first year, and being named Team MVP three years in a row. Kacey Lee Bellamy (born April 22, 1987) is an American ice hockey defender for the Calgary section of the PWHPA, an Olympic Silver medalist, and seven-time IIHF World Women's Championship winner. She currently plays for the Boston Pride in the National Women's Hockey League and the United States women's national ice hockey team. Jessica "Jess" Koizumi (Ka-Zoo-Me) (born April 15, 1985) is an American ice hockey coach and player, currently serving as the associate head coach of the Vermont Catamounts women's ice hockey program. She won a gold medal as a member of the United States national women's ice hockey team at the 2008 IIHF Women's World Championship.
